Vietnam-UK strengthen cooperation to raise awareness on human trafficking prevention among young people
More than 500 delegates, including representatives from government agencies, international organizations, civil society organizations, lecturers, and students, attended an event marking the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, jointly organized by the British Embassy in Vietnam and Vinh University on July 16 in Nghe An Province.

The program aimed to raise public awareness, particularly among young people, about the risks of human trafficking while encouraging them to take proactive steps to protect themselves, their families, and their communities from criminal schemes. Held in Nghe An, a province with a high rate of migration, the event carried particular significance in promoting awareness of safe migration.
As part of the event, students from Vinh University took part in a range of interactive activities, including skits, quick-response quizzes, and artistic performances designed to promote understanding of safe and legal migration while helping participants recognize the risks of human trafficking. A highlight of the program was a performance by singer Phan Manh Quynh, a native of Nghe An who has supported the British Embassy's public communication campaigns for many years, helping bring the campaign's message closer to the public.

The event received support and coordination from Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security, the Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, Nghe An Provincial Police, and Vinh University, contributing to its successful organization.
Speaking at the event, Charles Han, Head of the Immigration and Migration Section at the British Embassy in Vietnam, said the United Kingdom fully recognizes the scale and growing severity of human trafficking and remains committed to working closely with Vietnam to combat this crime.
The UK representative emphasized: "Since 2018, the UK Government has provided more than £7 million to support anti-human trafficking programmes in Vietnam and will continue supporting these efforts through 2029. We remain focused on dismantling organized criminal networks, preventing exploitation, while strengthening victim identification, assistance, and protection".
The event forms part of a series of activities organized by the British Embassy in Vietnam in response to the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons (July 30), reinforcing joint efforts to protect vulnerable groups, prevent irregular migration, and combat human trafficking.
Observed annually on July 30, the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons was established by the United Nations to raise public awareness, strengthen efforts to protect victims, and promote international cooperation in combating human trafficking. The 2026 theme, "Don't Fall for the Scam", highlights the growing threat posed by transnational criminal networks that recruit and coerce victims into large-scale online scam operations. According to the British Embassy, trafficking for the purpose of forced criminality is increasing rapidly and is closely linked to cybercrime, financial fraud, money laundering, and other forms of transnational organized crime. Since 2018, the United Kingdom and Vietnam have strengthened cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding on combating human trafficking, enhancing information sharing, supporting investigations, protecting victims, and promoting safe and regular migration. |
