Vietnam, Thailand cruise into AFF U19 Championship semi-finals

Vietnam and Thailand share points in a 1-1 draw in Indonesia on July 10, and they both qualified for the semi-finals of the ongoing 2022 AFF U19 Youth Championship regardless the result of the Indonesia-Myanmar match at the same time.

Neither side had scored a goal until Kroekphon made use of Vietnamese goalkeeper Van Binh’s mistake to put Thailand ahead with a header in the 72nd minute.

This was the first time, in the Southeast Asian U19 tournament, Vietnamese players had let their opponents score a goal to take the lead.

However, Vietnamese players did not need to wait long. They earned an equalizer five minutes later with Van Khang’s decisive close-range shot.

The score was maintained till the referee’s last whistle.

In another Group A match at the same time, hosts Indonesia stunned Myanmar 5-1, and they had to bid farewell to the tournament due to the 1-1 draw between Thailand and Vietnam.

After five group matches, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia all had 11 points, but Vietnam and Thailand finished first and second in Group A on goal difference.
