On September 24, in New York, during the high-level general debate of the 80th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, combined with bilateral activities in the United States, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son met with UK Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice David Lammy.
Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his pleasure at meeting again and congratulated David Lammy (former UK Foreign Minister) on his new position.
Affirming that Vietnam always values and seeks to further strengthen its Strategic Partnership with the UK, the Deputy Prime Minister was pleased to note the strong development of bilateral relations in recent times.
To promote cooperation between the two countries in the upcoming period, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that both sides enhance delegation exchanges, especially key leadership exchanges in 2025, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of establishing the Strategic Partnership, and discuss directions to elevate bilateral relations to a new height.
UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy appreciated Vietnam's increasingly important role and position in the region and internationally; expressed support for Vietnam in building a regional and international financial center; and expressed a desire to promote cooperation in migration, renewable energy, and science and technology.
The UK Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized continued support for Vietnam in responding to climate change, particularly in effectively implementing the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
Both sides agreed to continue effectively implementing bilateral cooperation mechanisms and to leverage the UK's accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) to explore cooperation potential between the two countries.
