On the morning of August 15, at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, who paid an official visit to Vietnam from August 14-15.

Expressing his pleasure to welcome the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar to Vietnam for the first time, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son emphasized that the visit is an important milestone in the Vietnam-Qatar relationship, especially when the two sides have just successfully held the second political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries and look forward to the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2023.

At the talk, the Foreign Ministers of the two countries expressed their delight at the positive developments of the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Qatar. They agreed that there is still plenty of room to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, especially in potential fields such as politics-diplomacy, economy, energy, tourism and labor.

The two sides emphasized the need to coordinate well in organizing activities to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Qatar diplomatic relations in 2023, focusing on enhancing the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-ranking level, organizing sports and cultural exchange activities; continue to coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums and international and regional organizations such as ASEAN and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

In economic terms, the two sides agreed to further strengthen trade and investment promotion activities, create conditions for exporting products of strength to penetrate each other's markets, and improve the effectiveness of cooperation between relevant management agencies, investment funds of the two countries such as the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) and the State Capital Investment Corporation of Vietnam (SCIC).

Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam will provide favorable conditions for Qatari businesses and investment funds to explore the market opportunities and invest in Vietnam. Regarding tourism, Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his wish to welcome more Qatari tourists to visit Vietnam in the near future in the context of a strong recovery of Vietnam's tourism industry after the COVID-19 pandemic.

To create a breakthrough for bilateral cooperation in the coming time, Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that the two sides soon convene the third meeting of the Vietnam-Qatar Joint Committee to review and discuss measures for reinforcing cooperation in various fields, accelerating talks and signing of bilateral cooperation agreements.

Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements, affirming that Vietnam is Qatar’s partner of priority in the Asia-Pacific and an attractive destination for Qatari investors.

Also, within the framework of the visit, the two sides exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern. Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani signed an Agreement on Visa Waiver for holders of diplomatic, official and special passports.
