Vietnam Embassy in Indonesia meets with the press in early 2025

WVR - On February 12, Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong held the 2025 press meeting with the participation of about 30 reporters and journalists from the host country's press agencies.

The event was attended by representatives from local press and news agencies, as well as regional news agencies based in the area, including Jakarta Global, Antara, RRI, TVRI, Voice of Indonesia, Kompas, Metro TV, Infobublik, Yomiuri Shimbun, Nikkei, Kyodo, Media Siber, and RMOL Media.

This is an annual activity organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia to strengthen connections with the regional press, thereby promoting and promoting the image and position of Vietnam as well as achievements in Vietnam-Indonesia relations.

At the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong highly praised the role of the press in promoting bilateral cooperation between the two countries. He emphasized that 2025 is a particularly important year for Vietnam, marked by a strong determination to achieving breakthrough successes in realizing the socio-economic development goals set for the 2021-2025 period.

This year, Vietnam will celebrate a number of significant milestones, including the 50th anniversary of national reunification, the 80th anniversary of National Day, and 30 years of ASEAN membership.

In addition, Vietnam will host key multilateral events, such as the ASEAN Future Forum (AFF), the 4th Summit on Partnership for Green Growth and Global Goals (P4G), and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

Vietnam remains committed to its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, and multilateralization of international relations. The country continues to be a good friend, a reliable partner, and an active, responsible member of the international community, striving for peace, cooperation, and development both regionally and globally.

Accordingly, in 2025, Vietnam will assume important roles and responsibilities in multilateral organizations and forums, including ASEAN, the Mekong Subregion, APEC, and various United Nations mechanisms, such as UNESCO and the UN Women Executive Council (2025–2027).

Ambassador Tạ Văn Thông shared with reporters and journalists Vietnam's remarkable socio-economic achievements in 2024. The country recorded an impressive growth rate of 7%, making it one of the fastest-growing economies in ASEAN.

Regarding the Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership, Ambassador Tạ Văn Thông emphasized that bilateral relations have witnessed strong growth, achieving comprehensive and solid progress across various fields, including politics, diplomacy, security and defense, economics, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

Within ASEAN, Indonesia is currently Vietnam's third-largest trading partner, while Vietnam ranks fourth among Indonesia's key trading partners.

Bilateral trade continues to grow steadily, rising from $9 billion in 2019 to $16.7 billion in 2024. Both sides have agreed to further increase two-way trade to $18 billion in the near future.

The two countries actively encourage businesses to invest in each other's markets, particularly in emerging sectors such as the Halal industry, the digital economy, the green economy, green transformation, and the development of an electric vehicle ecosystem.

Leading Vietnamese corporations such as VinFast and FPT have expanded their investments in Indonesia, while consumer goods brands like Sunhouse and Dien May Xanh have also strengthened their presence in the market.

Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air have opened many flight routes connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with Jakarta and Bali, fostering tourism growth and enhancing people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.

Notably, 2025 marks significant milestones for both countries, as Indonesia celebrates the 80th anniversary of its independence, and Vietnam and Indonesia commemorate 70 years of diplomatic relations.

Ambassador Ta Van Thong expressed his confidence that the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Indonesia will continue to flourish, fulfilling the shared aspirations of both nations and advancing their relationship in line with the commitments made by their leaders.

After addressing questions from reporters and journalists eager to learn more about Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and Vietnam-Indonesia relations, Ambassador Ta Van Thong thanked the press community in Jakarta for their professionalism and effective collaboration. He emphasized that the Vietnamese Embassy highly values their contributions and looks forward to continued close cooperation in the future.

On this occasion, the Ambassador also shared details about key commemorative events the Embassy will organize in 2025, including the launch of a book on President Ho Chi Minh and President Sukarno, highlighting the historical ties between the two countries; a photo exhibition titled "Vietnam-Indonesia: 70 Years of Strong Relations”; and a food festival celebrating Vietnamese culture.
