WVR - On the afternoon of September 4, within the framework of the 19th Ho Chi Minh City International Tourism Fair, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung met with Cambodian Minister of Tourism Huot Hak to discuss tourism development cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, Minister Nguyen Van Hung stated that based on the tourism cooperation memorandum signed in 2020, Vietnam and Cambodia have shown strong determination and significant efforts to promote the tourism industry.

Data from 2024 and the first half of 2025 show that this cooperation has yielded clear results, aligning with the goals and commitments of the memorandum. Statistics indicate that approximately 400,000 Cambodian tourists visited Vietnam, while over 600,000 Vietnamese tourists traveled to Cambodia.

Minister ung emphasized: “Culture and heritage are crucial foundations for attracting and promoting tourism, helping tourists from both countries and international friends gain a deeper understanding of cultural identities.”

Affirming the significant potential for cooperation and tourist exchange, Minister Hung expressed the desire for both sides to agree on various solutions to increase tourist numbers. Beyond tourism, this cooperation also strengthens solidarity, friendship, and neighborly ties, encouraging the people of both countries to continue building a prosperous future.

From Cambodia's perspective, Minister Huot Hak assessed that Vietnam and Cambodia are always connected in the spirit of good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability.

The two nations share a border, facilitating connections by road, river, and air.

“The two countries have great potential for tourism development and can complement each other for mutual growth. Recently, promotional and communication activities about tourism potential have been implemented, but there is still a need for further expansion,” Minister Huot Hak said.

Minister Hout Hak also requested Vietnam's support in enhancing coordination to organize tourism survey delegations, facilitating Cambodian delegations to visit Vietnam and vice versa for experience exchange.

Both sides agreed to promote the signing of cooperation documents, especially in developing road tourism to facilitate tourist exchanges. Cambodia pledged to closely coordinate to realize this goal.

Additionally, the two countries can collaborate to organize promotional events in border areas, such as car races and marathons, thereby enhancing connectivity and boosting bilateral tourism appeal.

The Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee expressed his welcome to Minister Huot Hak and the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism delegation for visiting and participating in activities within the framework of the 19th Ho Chi Minh City International Tourism Fair.

During the meeting, Mr. Duoc affirmed the “good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability” between Vietnam and Cambodia is thriving.

He emphasized that with the close attention and direction of the high-level leaders of both Parties and States, the Vietnam-Cambodia friendship has been nurtured, becoming an important foundation for both countries to aim for prosperous development, contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world.

In the spirit of friendly cooperation, Mr. Duoc expressed his desire for the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism to continue strengthening coordination with Ho Chi Minh City in tourism communication and promotion on each other's channels.

This is seen as a practical solution to attract tourists while expanding cooperation space, contributing to spreading the friendly and attractive image of each country to international friends.
