Tourism firms suggest maintaining 'flexibly, safely adapting to pandemic' motto

The business community hopes the Government will maintain Resolution 128 on flexibly and safely adapting to and effectively controlling COVID-19, and keep its motto unchanged even when adjusting or upgrading it, according to a proposal on measures to support tourism sector's post-pandemic recovery.

In the proposal, submitted by the Private Sector Development Committee (Committee IV) and the Tourism Advisory Board to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, businesses suggested that the Government direct localities to stay coherent in applying pandemic control measures when opening to tourists.

Committee IV and the Tourism Advisory Board advised the Government to push localities to give regular and accurate updates on pandemic control measures, especially those related to traveling and accommodation, and create a hotline to support the work.

They proposed that the Government focus on speeding up digital transformation in tourism to ensure connections among State agencies, businesses and localities during the recovery process and assist the tourism digital marketing.

They also suggested the strengthening of the public-private dialogue to build tourism recovery plans and scenarios.

In 2022, the sector aims to serve 65 million visitors, equivalent to 150 percent of the number in 2021, with a total revenue of 400 trillion VND (17.6 million USD).

A recent survey showed that nearly 90 percent of people asked said that they want to travel right in the next 10 months, including 53.7 percent planning to take a trip between December 2021 and the first months of 2022. Meanwhile, 56 percent of people placed priority on pandemic safety.

The survey also revealed that the demand for using technology to search for tourism information and travel service booking is high, with 75 percent of people surveyed showing hope that digital platforms in tourism will focus on providing safe tourism information.

However, the survey also pointed out concerns of tourists, with 87 percent worrying that they will have to undertake quarantine at their targeted destination or when coming back, 61 percent being afraid of pandemic outbreak while travelling, and 54 percent showing hesitation due to different travel restriction measures among localities.
