The young generation – A bridge extending the friendship between Vietnam and Italy

During a visit and exchange at Nguyen Sieu Secondary & High School (Hanoi) as part of an international student exchange program with Galileo Galilei High School (Siena, Italy), Mr. Marco Della Seta, the Italian Ambassador to Vietnam, emphasised the core role of education and people-to-people diplomacy in strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

Elevating Cooperation from the Foundation of People-to-People Exchanges

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Marco Della Seta highlighted the long-standing history and enduring relationship between Vietnam and Italy. The two countries established diplomatic relations before 1973, when Vietnam was not yet widely recognised on the international stage, laying the groundwork for a robust friendship spanning over half a century.

Over more than 50 years, bilateral cooperation has been continuously strengthened, elevated to a Strategic Partnership, and is progressing towards the highest level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

According to the Ambassador, the driving force behind this robust development stems from the existing strong relationship, particularly in trade, investment, and cultural exchanges. Beyond artistic bridges like music and cinema, education plays a crucial role and is “the most direct and effective way to connect people from a young age, from the youth and future workforce”.

Students – The “young ambassadors” cultivating a bilateral future

Addressing Vietnamese and Italian students present at the event, the Ambassador affirmed that the connection between the young generations of the two countries is as significant as governmental diplomacy. It is the youth who will continue to lead and nurture the Vietnam-Italy relationship in the future.

Praising the educational cooperation model between Nguyen Sieu Secondary & High School and Galileo Galilei High School (Siena, Italy), the Ambassador affirmed that international students coming to Vietnam for exchange and study, and receiving warm support from Vietnamese friends, is “a wonderful experience that should continue to develop and expand”.

Simultaneously, Ambassador Marco Della Seta offered sincere advice to Nguyen Sieu students preparing for an exchange in Italy, encouraging them to broaden their perspectives, experience new cultures, lifestyles, and learning methods to appreciate the world's diversity.

The Ambassador expressed hope that, after their experiences, Italian students returning to Siena or Nguyen Sieu students visiting Italy will continue to cherish their fond memories and serve as “young ambassadors”, fostering people-to-people friendship between the two nations.
