In order to open to the world, Thanh Hoa needs an overall strategy for tourism development, and have new products attractive to tourists.

An attractive destination

Thanh Hoa is not only a “sacred land with extraordinary people”, rich in historical and cultural traditions, but also well known for many historical relics and attractive landscapes that captivate people's hearts. To promote the potential and build Thanh Hoa tourism brand for reaching the region and the world, the province has carried out many drastic and effective measures.

When exploring deeply about the Thanh land and people, people will see a minature image of Vietnam, in which the sacred mountains and rivers converge, where the underground veins of tradition are flowing continuously. With those advantages, Thanh Hoa plays an important role in inter-regional tourism connection in North Central region and is an attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists.

In particular, Thanh Hoa province is blessed by nature with 102km of coastline, with many smooth beaches, clean environment and beautiful natural landscapes, including Sam Son, Hai Tien, Hai Hoa, etc.

Along the coast, there are many mountain ranges protruding, creating creeks such as Gam creek, Thuy creek, Bien creek, interspersed with stream mouths such as Lach Sung, Lach Truong, Lach Hoi, Lach Bang and Lach Ghep, creating a natural diverse landscape system.

In addition, Thanh Hoa sea is also adorned by a system of large and small islands such as Hon Me, Hon Ne, Nghi Son... which are rich in potential, reflected in many attractive tourism products.

It can be affirmed that Thanh Hoa is the destination with various tourism resources such as eco-tourism, sea tourism with high quality resorts, hotels and restaurants which are invested synchronously.

Beach resort tourism is identified as Thanh Hoa’s strength or key product which is put at priority in order to to realize the goal of building Thanh Hoa into an attractive destination, with modern high-class beach resorts.

With orientation and investment from province and its localities, until now, Thanh Hoa beach resort tourism products are gradually creating brand in the North and North Central Region, at the same time, basically meeting the diverse need of tourist markets from the middle to high class.

According to Thanh Hoa Culture – Sport and Tourism Department report, within first 6 months of 2023, the province is estimated to welcome more than 8.3 million arrivals, an increase of 13% compared to the same period in 2022, with the total revenue from tourism estimately reaching more than 15.000 billion VND, an increase of 63.2% in the plan of 2023.

During the period from April 30 to May 1, 2023, Thanh Hoa province welcomed the highest number of tourists in Vietnam with nearly 1.2 million arrivals. In 2022, the province estimated to welcome 11.01 million turn of tourists, in which the number of international tourists are 245 thousand, 11.47 times higher compared to 2021. In 2023, Thanh Hoa province set a goal to receive 12 million turn of tourists.

Since the beginning of 2023, many cultural, sports and tourism activities have been taken place in the province, attracting the attention of many tourists inside and outside the province. Along with that, Thanh Hoa focuses on tourism linkage and promotion activities to localities and travel businesses throughout the country, developing new tours and tourist routes.

Clearly identifying the important role of technology in the development of the tourism industry, during the past years, Thanh Hoa province has actively applied digital technology in tourism promotion activities, especially in smart tourism.

On 22nd February 2022, Thanh Hoa province People’s Committee issued Decision No. 688/QĐ-UBND on recognition symbol and slogan “Thanh Hoa Tourism - Flavors of the four seasons”. The release of Thanh Hoa Tourism Brand Identity officially marked Thanh Hoa tourism in Vietnam’s tourism map in particular, and the world generally, at the same time, contributing to building and promoting Thanh Hoa tourism brand in the new period, creating uniformity in promoting tourism images, thereby attracting tourists.

New tourist products needed

Despite achieving impressive results, the development of the province's beach resort tourism product is still not commensurate with its potential. Thanh Hoa province still lacks high-end tourism products, while new tourism products are still very modest.

Ms. Vuong Thi Hai Yen, Deputy Director of Thanh Hoa Culture, Sports and Tourism Department said that to make tourism an economic driving force, in the coming time, the province needs to implement strategies to build Thanh Hoa as the attractive destination with unique tourism products such as spirit tourism, community eco-tourism, green tourism, sea tourism, etc. Besides, the province focuses on tourism development based on quality, towards proactive integration, improving efficiency and professionalism, ensuring branded and highly competitive tourism products.

Thanh Hoa is aiming to become an attractive destination, with modern, high-class beach resorts. To realize that, experts and tourism managers believe that the province needs an overall, long-term development strategy for the tourism industry in general, and marine tourism in particular, focusing on new and unique products that are competitive and meet the tastes and consumption trends of tourists. In particular, the province needs to focus on high-end, professional, civilized resort tourism products, ensuring sustainable development; combining health care services, sports tourism, traditional and modern entertainment, MICE tourism...

At the same time, the province also needs to pay attention to developing community eco-tourism products, river tourism, and agricultural tourism, to connect and effectively supplement sea resort tourism products. In addition, based on existing resources, it is necessary to encourage and attract investors to develop new tourism products and unique types of services that have their own mark and attract tourists.

At the Conference on linkage and cooperation in tourism development, connecting tours and routes between Thanh Hoa province and other provinces/cities in 2023, Mr. Vu The Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association said that, in the current context, Thanh Hoa province needs to focus on exploiting cultural values in tourism development; exploring different cultural values based on similar products among localities to make deeper connect. In addition, more attention should be paid to the natural landscape, tourist environment... aiming to attract a diverse tourist market, including international visitors.
