Vietnam, China’s Sichuan Province enhance cooperation and exchanges: Consul General

The two sides had in-depth discussions and reached many common perceptions on promoting cooperation and exchanges between Vietnam and Sichuan Province.
At the meeting, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long expressed his great honour in assuming the role of the first Consul General of Vietnam in Chongqing, with the consular jurisdiction covering both Chongqing city and Sichuan Province, in the context of the sound and growing relations between the two Parties and two countries, Vietnam and China.
He noted that the friendly and cooperative relations between Vietnamese localities and Sichuan Province have shown strong and comprehensive development across various fields. Vietnam is currently Sichuan’s largest trading partner within ASEAN, while ASEAN as a whole is Sichuan’s largest trading partner globally. The two sides have established many direct air routes, and an increasing number of Vietnamese students are choosing Sichuan as a destination for their studies. These developments underscore the vast potential and room for cooperation between the two sides.

Consul General Bui Nguyen Long emphasized that Sichuan, a province with a rich cultural and historical heritage in China, has long-standing friendly ties with Vietnam. The establishment of the Consulate General, with jurisdiction including Sichuan Province, reflects the Vietnamese Party and Government’s high regard for strengthening friendly and cooperative relations with Sichuan.

On that basis, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long proposed that both sides continue to closely coordinate and actively promote friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation between Vietnam and Sichuan in a more dynamic and effective manner in the time ahead. In particular, he called for increased high-level and multi-level exchanges; enhanced cooperation in economy, trade, and investment; expanded people-to-people exchanges and cultural and tourism collaboration—thereby making practical contributions to the development of the Vietnam–China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
