Tampere city (Finland) keen to cooperate in vocational training with Hanoi

On October 13, in Hanoi, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee - Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Le Hong Son led the delegation, greatly welcoming Vice Mayor of Tampere city of Finland Ilkka Sasi and discussing cooperation sectors of mutual interest.

At the meeting, Mr. IIkka Sasa said Tampere is Finland's second largest city, with strengths in technology and creative startups, healthcare, vocational training, clean energy, and renewable energy. The year 2023t marks the 50th anniversary of establishing Vietnam-Finland diplomatic relations. Accordingly, Mr. IIkka Sasa is pleased to recognize that the two countries’ relations have developed very well and this visit contributes to promoting closer bilateral relations.
Mr. IIkka Sasa highlighted that Tampere city is eager to cooperate with sectors that Hanoi concerns, such as smart urban development, vocational training, and high-tech development.
Also at the meeting, a representative from the TAKK vocational training school for adults (Finland) said that the Finnish market is suffering from a skilled labor shortage. There are currently 20 Vietnamese students participating in TAKK's training course and the school is continuing to recruit more. Consequently, Tampere city is looking forward to promoting educational cooperation with Hanoi, especially vocational training.
Appreciating the sharings of Tampere city, Mr. Son was delighted to see that the delegation’s ideas and goals in the business trip were very consistent with Hanoi’s development orientation.
According to Mr. Son, as the capital, national political - administrative, economics, culture, education and training, science and technology and international integration major center; as one of the two largest economic centers in Vietnam, Hanoi always promotes the spirit of dynamism, initiative, creativity and has achieved many positive and comprehensive achievements in recent times.
Currently, Hanoi is developing towards becoming the innovation center of the country, focusing on high technology, IT, high-tech agriculture, and biotechnology sectors. Regarding high technology, Hanoi was assigned to manage Hoa Lac high-tech zone in order to focus on researching technology transformation. Hanoi is building a smart city, using 4.0 technology to address problems of governance, urban management, wastewater treatment, health network, education, and social security.
Mr. Son emphasized that with ⅓ of universities and scientists across the country gathering together, the vocational training sector is a crucial orientation when Hanoi wants to transform into a high-quality vocational training center. Mr. Son further informed that the city government is building support policies to encourage students to learn vocational training as well as encourage the city’s vocational training institutions to link with foreign vocational training institutions.
Reviewing several cooperation activities with Finland in recent times, Mr. Son said that in 2019, the Finnish company GreenFivi visited Hanoi to recruit seasonal forestry workers in Finland. The company has worked with the Hanoi Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to continue promoting cooperation in labor and vocational training sectors. In November 2020, Finest Future Company, Finland offered scholarships to students of Chu Van An High School to study high school in Finland from August 2021.
In the near future, Hanoi will continue to welcome and encourage Finnish businesses in general and Tampere city in particular to explore the investment environment and expand business opportunities in Hanoi. On the basis of the great cooperation between the two countries, Mr. Son believes that the relationship between Hanoi and Tampere city will develop continuously and make new achievements.
