Tam Dao makes a name for itself on the world’s tourist map
WVR - With abundant natural resources, investment in infrastructure, preservation of cultural identity and efforts for human development, Tam Dao district has been constantly developing sustainably, while marking its name on the tourism map of Vietnam and the world.

Tam Dao is a famous tourist destination located in the northeast of Vinh Phuc province, 60 km away from Hanoi, 40km from Noi Bai international airport. Tam Dao district has a natural area of 23,475.95 ha. The population is more than 86,000 people, in which the proportion of ethnic minorities accounts for about 42.16%, most of them being the San Diu ethnic group.
Located adjacent to Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway, Tam Dao has extremely favorable conditions, such as rich history, cultural traditions, landscape and climate blessed by nature, to attract domestic and international visitors, contributing to tourism development.
Myriad forms of tourism
Tam Dao National Forest is home to thousands of rich species of flora and fauna; featuring a system of lakes, streams, waterfalls... Especially, Tam Dao tourist area, located at an altitude of more than 900m above sea level, with an average temperature of 180 degrees Celsius in a year, is an ideal place for tourists to relax, do scientific research, business travel, adventure tourism.
Since the early 20th century, Tam Dao had been chosen by the French to build a resort area. Receiving strong investment in recent years, Tam Dao has been attracting millions of visitors every year. In January 2022, Tam Dao National Tourist Area was recognized as a National Tourism Area and in November 2022, Tam Dao town was awarded the World's Leading Town Destination 2022, thereby, affirming the position, the love of tourists and Tam Dao’s vision of international tourism in the future.
Tam Dao has a rich cultural traditional heritage. There is a plethora of relics relating to Buddha and divinity worship, distributed in almost all localities. The district has 124 relics, including 17 provincial-ranked ones, 1 special national monument (Tay Thien – Tam Dao historical and scenic relics) and 106 other unranked relics of belief and religious works.
In 2018, the folk song Soong Co of the San Diu ethnic people was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage. Two years later, the worship of Mau Tay Thien was also recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national intangible cultural heritage. In addition, there are many festivals held annually associated with historical and cultural relics, attracting many pilgrims to Tam Dao such as Tay Thien Festival, Chan Suoi Temple Festival.

Efforts to create attraction
In recent years, with the attention of the Government, ministries, central authorities, and the Provincial Party Committee – People's Committee of Vinh Phuc province, Tam Dao district has started construction of key projects for tourism development such as: expanding the 2B national highway in Tam Dao town; Investing in and completing Tam Dao Park; the system of historical relics in Tay Thien Scenic Area.
In order for tourism to become a spearhead economic sector, a driving force for the development of social life, the Provincial People's Committee of Vinh Phuc has issued the Project “Tourism development of Tam Dao district to 2025, oriented towards 2030”; Project “Preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values of San Diu ethnic group in Vinh Phuc province from 2022 to 2025, oriented towards 2030”. Tam Dao district also improves the effectiveness, efficiency in the administration and management of authorities at all levels for tourism and service activities.
Alongside the concretization and implementation of the Vinh Phuc provincial planning for the period of 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050, Tam Dao district also continues to carry out the planning of land use right auction areas to plant seeds for development investment, welcome and create favorable conditions for domestic and international investors in the area.
In order to create a collective attractiveness, the People's Committee of Tam Dao district has focused on building the Project “Building civilized and friendly people of Tam Dao to meet the requirements of sustainable development”, while also implementing the pilot project for the ideal cultural village model in the district area of communes, town.
It is thanks to the comprehensive development with a sustainable vision that Tam Dao is now increasingly attracting, retaining tourists, and leaving a good impression on anyone who visits.
Thus, it would not be an exaggeration to say that Tam Dao is transforming itself to impress and promise many breakthrough potentials on the tourism map of both Vietnam and the entire world.
