At the invitation of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Luong Cuong, Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Haji Hassanal Bolkiah will pay a state visit to Vietnam from November 30 to December 2, 2025.

On October 31, 2025, on the occasion of attending the APEC 2025 Economic Leaders' Week in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea, President Luong Cuong met with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam.

During the meeting, the Sultan expressed his appreciation and desire to further develop substantive cooperation with Vietnam, including in the fields of economic trade, energy, oil and gas, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Sultan stated that Brunei will continue to support capacity building for Vietnamese officials through scholarship programs, including English language training.

The two leaders also agreed on strengthening solidarity, unity, and maintaining ASEAN's central role in the region; promoting cooperation on regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea issue, and advancing substantive, effective Code of Conduct in the Eat Sea (COC) negotiations in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
