During the meeting, Director General Pham Binh Dam congratulated Mr. James Nickel on his appointment as the Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam.
Director General Pham Binh Dam expressed his hope that with Mr. James Nickel's extensive experience in diplomacy, he will continue to enhance and deepen the bilateral relations between the two countries. Additionally, the leader of the State Protocol and External Interpretation Department affirmed cooperation with other units within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam to support the Ambassador in successfully completing his term.

For his part, Mr. James Nickel affirmed his commitment to actively contributing to the further strengthening and development of Canada - Vietnam relations across all fields.
Mr. James Nickel is a seasoned diplomat who began his career at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Canada in 1991. There, he held positions in the Arms Control and Disarmament Division, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Division, Deputy Director of the Japan Division, and Director of the South Asia Division.
Mr. James Nickel, also a senior advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director of the North America Division, has served in various Asian locations including Japan, Indonesia, India, China, and most recently in Taipei (China).
