At the event, held within the framework of the Da Nang Asian Film Festival, VFDA President Ngo Phuong Lan stressed that the film industry not only has great potential to contribute to the national economy but also plays an important role in improving local livelihoods.

With a view to creating a high-quality film or TV programme for both Vietnamese and global audience, Vietnam needs to learn experience from countries with well-developed film industry, she said.

Vice Chairman and Head of Asia Pacific for Public Policy and Foreign Affairs at Sony Pictures Entertainment Jared Dougherty shared several solutions that are applicable in Vietnam, ranging from getting funding for films to capitalising on the values of films’ intellectual property

Films and culture are tools that help countries overcome geopolitical and trade challenges, and enhance mutual understanding, he said, adding the Vietnamese film industry is developing strongly, with movies having received warm welcome from the international community.
