Leaders’ activities

On July 27, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (July 27, 2012-2022), President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and President of Russia Vladimir Putin exchanged messages of greetings.

On July 27, on the occasion of Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe's election as President of Sri Lanka and Mr. Dinesh Gunawardena's appointment as Prime Minister, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent a congratulatory message to President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena. On the same day, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son also sent a congratulatory message to Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabry.

On July 26, on the occasion of Cuba's 69th anniversary of the Attack on Moncada Barracks (July 26, 1953- 2022), General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent congratulatory messages to First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a congratulatory message to Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz. Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue congratulated President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo. Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son sent greetings to his Cuban counterpart, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla.

On July 29, on the occasion of Mr. Bajram Begaj's election as President of the Republic of Albania, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent a congratulatory message.

On July 25, on the occasion of Ms. Droupadi Murmu being sworn in as the 15th President of India, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc sent a congratulatory message.

On July 28, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc received outgoing Hungarian Ambassador Ory Csaba.

On July 27, in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended and delivered a speech at the third meeting of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), with the participation of 150 delegates from 17 APEC economies. The proposals raised at the meeting will be sent to APEC leaders during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week slated for November in Bangkok, the Chair of APEC and ABAC 2022.

On July 30, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a dialogue with the Republic of Korean (RoK)’s Ambassador Park Noh-wan and representatives of Korean associations and businesses in Vietnam. The Prime Minister affirmed that he wishes to have more cooperation and investment projects of Korea.

On July 29, Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) Vuong Dinh Hue held a reception for visiting Takebe Tsutomu, Special Advisor to the Japan - Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance (JVFPA). Lauding activities run by the JVFPA and its Vietnamese counterpart as well as the contributions of Mr.Takebe Tsutomu in strengthening the nations’ friendship over the years, National Assembly Chairman Hue highlighted the Vietnam-Japan University (VJU) project, and bilateral cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

On July 26, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue sent messages of congratulations to the new Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives, Martin Romualdez, and the new President of the Philippine Senate Juan Miguel Zubiri.

Activities of the Foreign Affairs Minister

On July 29, at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son received outgoing Mr. Gareth Ward, the British Ambassador to Vietnam.

On July 28, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son received Ms. Kanni Wignaraja, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific who was on a visit to Vietnam.

On July 28, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son received Mr. Takebe Tsutomu, Special Advisor to the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance.

On July 27, under the authorization of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son presented a Friendship Order to Hungarian Ambassador to Vietnam Ory Csaba in recognition of the diplomat’s dedication to relations between the two countries.

On the same day, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son received Timor-Leste Ambassador Maria Olandina Isabel Caeiro Alves who paid a courtesy call.

On July 27, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son received outgoing Czech Ambassador to Vietnam Vitezalav Grepl.

On July 29, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov exchanged messages of greetings on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-Turkmenistan diplomatic relationship (1992-2022).

On July 28, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son sent greetings to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor Leste Adaljiza Albertina Xavier Reis Magno on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Timor Leste (July 28, 2002 – 2022).

Bilateral activities

On July 28, a delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) led by Le Hoai Trung, member of the CPV Central Committee and Head of its Commission for External Relations, attended the Communist Party of China (CPC) and World Marxist Political Parties Forum held virtually. Mr. Le Hoai Trung read a letter of congratulations by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the forum, in which the Vietnamese Party leader spoke highly of the CPC’s organisation of the event, regarding this as an opportunity to pay tribute to Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels and Vladimir Ilyich Lenin – great thinkers and eminent revolutionaries of international communist and workers’ movements.

From July 26-29, a delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by Deputy Minister Pham Quang Hieu, Chairman of the State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese, paid a working visit to Cambodia. The delegation paid a courtesy call to Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng and had meetings with Secretary of State of Cambodia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ouch Borith, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Home Affairs General Sok Phal, Phnom Penh Mayor Khuong Sreng and Kratie Province Governor Var Than.

On July 29, in Brussels, the Vietnamese Embassy in Belgium, the Vietnamese Mission to the European Union (EU) and the Vietnamese Embassy in the Netherlands co-organized friendship exchange activities with the Embassy of Laos in the Kingdom of Belgium, the Lao Mission to the EU, concurrently the Netherlands.

On July 27, within the framework of the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year, the Consulate General of Vietnam and the Consulate General of Laos in Guangzhou jointly organized an event to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties and 45th anniversary of signing the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

In an interview with the World and Vietnam Report (WVR) reporters on the occasion of Peru's National Day (July 28, 1821- 2022), Peruvian Ambassador Augusto Morelli shared his account of interesting things about the faraway country of Peru, Vietnam-Peru relations, as well as some his unforgettable moments in Vietnam.

On July 26, under the authorization of the Foreign Minister, Permanent Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu presented the Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam to Minister of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam Okabe Daisuke, in recognition of the diplomat’s dedication to the strengthening and development of the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership.

Last week, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Le Thanh Tung had a working trip to Pinar del Río province, located in the westernmost part of Cuba to open up more potentials of cooperation. Vietnamese Ambassador to the Netherlands Pham Viet Anh visited Holland Circular Hotspot (HCH), sharing experience in implementing circular economy. Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Nguyen Tat Thanh had a visit to Western Australia to strengthen cohesion and expand opportunities for comprehensive cooperation. Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh spoke at the meeting with Thai business delegations who are going to visit Vietnam.

Multilateral activities

On July 25, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc received Dr. Rebecca Sta Maria, Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat on the occasion of Ms. Sta Maria attending the Third Meeting of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) in Ha Long from July 26-29.

On July 25, at the Guangxi Institute of Standards, the Conference on ASEAN-China Standardization Cooperation and the opening ceremony of the course on mutual recognition of standards in the field of traditional medicine between China and ASEAN countries was held. Consul General Do Nam Trung attended and spoke at the conference.

Citizen protection

Talking to the World & Vietnam Report, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Jordan, Dang Xuan Dung shared the practice of implementing citizen protection work of the Embassy and his thoughts on the significance of this special work that is a duty as well as close attachment to compatriots.

On July 29, the Embassy of Vietnam in Germany announced that it is ready to issue a confirmation in German about the place of birth for Vietnamese citizens using new-style passports, in case they need it to present to German authorities. Vietnam's new passports, which have been issued since July 1, have been temporarily not recognized by Germany as they lack the information of one's place of birth. The Vietnamese and German authorities are actively working to tackle the problem. The confirmation issued by the Embassy aims to facilitate Vietnamese citizens in Germany to obtain residence permits and conduct other administrative procedures.

Last week, amid the current complicated conflict developments in Ukraine, the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued travel warnings to Vietnamese citizens to Ukraine.

Other activities

On July 28, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) held a ceremony to award the Medal for Peace and Friendship Among Nations to Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam Elsbeth Akkerman and Hungarian Ambassador to Vietnam Ory Csaba.
