Leaders’ activities

Vietnam and Cambodia have organized a series of activities to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cambodia (June 24, 1967- 2022) and the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year 2022.

Party and State leaders of the two countries have exchanged congratulatory letters. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong sent a congratulatory letter to the President of the Cambodian People's Party Samdech Techo Hun Sen; President Nguyen Xuan Phuc extended his greetings to King Norodom Sihamoni; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent his congratulations to Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen; National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue extended congratulations to President of the Senate Samdech Say Chhum and President of the National Assembly Samdech Heng Samrin.

On June 24, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received Ms. Men Sam An, Vice President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia, Chairwoman of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association, who was paying an official visit to Vietnam and attended the celebrations of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cambodia.

On the same day, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An, who is also Minister of the National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection of Cambodia.

Previously on June 20, at the border area between Loc Ninh District, Binh Phuoc Province and Memot District, Tbong Khmum Province, Cambodia, activities took place within the framework of the 45th Anniversary Day of the Journey Leading to the Overthrow of the Pol Pot genocidal regime by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen (June 20, 1977- 2022).

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and delivered an important speech at the ceremony marking the 45th anniversary of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen’s journey to overthrow the Pol Pot genocidal regime.

On the same day, at the meeting in the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship House, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen agreed on measures to deepen the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

On June 24, in Hanoi, the Hanoi People's Committee held a ceremony to mark the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cambodia (June 24, 1967 - 2022). Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai, on behalf of the Vietnamese Party and State leaders and people, extended his greetings to the Cambodian Party, State and people on the meaningful day of the two nations. The Vietnamese Party, State and people always attach great importance to and give high priority to good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia, he stressed.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An expressed her sincerest and most profound respect and gratitude for the support of the Vietnamese Party, State, army and people for the Cambodian side.

On June 23, at the Presidential Palace, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc received the outgoing Ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, Israel and Azerbaijan to say goodbye.

On the same day, Mozambican National Assembly President Esperanca Laurinda Francisco Nhiuane Bias wrapped up her official visit to Vietnam from June 18-23, at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

During the visit, National Assembly President Esperanca Laurinda Francisco Nhiuane Bias paid a courtesy call to President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, met Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and met with the Standing Secretariat of the Secretariat Vo Van Thuong.

On June 25, Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue and a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese legislature arrived at Liszt Ferenc International Airport in Budapest, the capital of Budapest, beginning an official visit to Hungary from June 26-28 at the invitation of the Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary László Kövér.

The visit of National Assembly Chairman Hue takes place amid good development of Vietnam-Hungary ties after the two countries elevated their relationship to a comprehensive partnership during the visit in 2018 of Vietnam’s Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, demonstrating the resolve of leaders of the two countries to promote bilateral relationship.

On June 24, at the Government Guest House, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An.

From June 23-25, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan led the Vietnamese delegation to attend the 2022 Global Summit of Women (GSW) in Bangkok, Thailand, and delivered an important speech, putting forward solutions to fully tap the potential and role of women.

Within the framework of the visit, the Vice President had meetings with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, Thai Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai, the President of the Vietnam-Thailand Friendship Association, Executives of AMATA, Siam Piwat and Central corporations; received Malaysian Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development Datuk Seri Rina Binti Mohd; attended and delivered speech at the Vietnam-Thailand Business Forum...

Activities of the Foreign Affairs Minister

On June 22, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son held a phone conversation with Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Oman Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al Busaidi. The phone conversation took place in the context of Vietnam and Oman celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (June 9, 1992 - 2022).

On the same day, at the headquarters of the Ministry, receiving Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Abdulnasser Al Shaali, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam Nam will create favorable conditions for UAE businesses to seek and join business and investment projects in Vietnam, calling on them to increase investment in agriculture in order to contribute to food security.

Bilateral activities

On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cambodia (June 24, 1967 - 2022), Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang gave an interview to the World and Vietnam Report (WVR), sharing priorities for promotion of the relationship between the two countries in the coming time.

Ahead of the official visit to Hungary by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, Vietnamese Ambassador to Hungary Nguyen Thi Bich Thao shared with WVR the significance of the visit and conveyed her expectations about the development of bilateral relations in the coming time.

On June 23, the 30th Maekyung Global Forum was held in Seoul with the theme "Celebrating 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Korea: Together towards the future", co-organized by Maekyung Media Group, Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

In a message given to the function, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh highly appreciated the Maekyung Forum’s role in connecting and promoting multi-faceted co-operation between all countries, as well as between Vietnam and the RoK, especially in terms of economics, trade, and investment.

On June 22, on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cambodia, Standing Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu visited and delivered a congratulatory message to the Cambodian Embassy in Hanoi.

On the same day, receiving Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Abdulnasser Al Shaali, Assistant Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang affirmed that the UAE is an important trade and investment partner of Vietnam in the Middle East.

Also on June 22, the Vietnamese Embassy in Mongolia coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, the Mongolian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia to organize a Vietnam-Mongolia business forum in the capital Ulaanbaatar.

Multilateral activities

On June 24, the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN) in New York celebrated the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cambodia (June 24, 1967- 2022). Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam, said that the Vietnamese Mission will continue to closely coordinate with the Cambodian Mission to promote the bilateral relationship to further development, meeting the needs, aspirations and interests of the two peoples, contributing to the common work of the United Nations.

From June 21-23, the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) held a session on humanitarian issues with the theme “Strengthening humanitarian assistance: good practices and mobilizing action in the application of international humanitarian law, the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and in response to the climate crisis”. Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang attended and delivered a speech at the meeting.

On June 20, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution stipulating that June 24 is International Women's Day in Diplomacy. With this resolution, the UN General Assembly reaffirms that the participation of women at all levels of decision-making is essential for sustainable development, peace and democracy.

On June 22, Vietnam and Australia co-chaired the seminar "Vulnerability and resilience of supply chains in Southeast Asia". The Vietnamese delegation was led by Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang, Vietnamese Ambassador to France and Assistant Minister, Director General of Economic General Department Nguyen Minh Hang attended and co-chaired the Seminar.

On June 21, the 19th Annual ASEAN-Canada Online Dialogue at the Head of SOM took place. Ambassador Vu Ho, Acting Head of SOM ASEAN Vietnam, and SOM Heads of ASEAN countries and Canada attended the Dialogue.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson

On June 23, at the regular press conference, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang denounced China’s illegal military exercise in Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, saying it was a serious violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty over the islands.

The military drill “goes against the spirit of the Declaration of the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), complicates the situation, is not conducive to the ongoing negotiations between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC), and does not help maintain a peaceful, stable, and cooperative environment in the East Sea."

"Vietnam strongly opposes and demands that China respects Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago and not repeat such violations", the Spokesperson stressed.

The Spokesperson also informed of the return of the cashew nut containers in Italy, the case of Nguy Thi Khanh, Vietnam's preparation in the fight against the monkeypox epidemic, and the assurance that protecting and promoting human rights is the consistent policy of Vietnam.
