Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and spouse arrive in Kuwait City, beginning official visit to Kuwait

WVR - At exactly 1:30 PM (local time) on November 16, the special aircraft carrying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his spouse, along with a high-level Vietnamese delegation, landed at Kuwait International Airport.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his spouse Le Thi Bich Tran are on an official visit to Kuwait from November 16-18, at the invitation of the Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al Sabah. This is the first stop in their three-nation tour of the Middle East and Africa.

Welcoming the delegation at the airport were members of the Kuwaiti Royal Family, Prime Minister's Advisor and former Minister of Health Basel Humood AL Sabah; Minister of Social Affairs, Labor, Family and Youth Amthal AI Hawaila; Kuwait's Ambassador to Vietnam Yousuf Aya Alsabbagh, and representatives from the Protocol Department of the Prime Minister's Office.

On the Vietnamese side, there was Vietnam's Ambassador to Kuwait Nguyen Duc Thang and staff from the Vietnamese Embassy in Kuwait.

This is the first visit to Kuwait by a high-ranking Vietnamese leader in 16 years, coinciding with the two countries preparing to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations in January 2026.

The visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Kuwait holds significant importance, not only for the bilateral relations between Vietnam and Kuwait but also in affirming Vietnam's policy of developing relations with the region.

This diplomatic activity continues Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's 2024 visit to three Gulf countries, demonstrating Vietnam's commitment to implementing its foreign strategy towards the Middle East, timely realizing Resolution 59-NQ/TW on international integration in the new context.

Kuwait was the first country in the Gulf Cooperation Council to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam (January 10, 1976).

Vietnam and Kuwait actively coordinate and support each other in multilateral forums, maintaining excellent cooperation in defense, security, agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and regularly exchange bilateral delegations across various channels and levels.

According to Vietnam's Ambassador to Kuwait Nguyen Duc Thang, during the visit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will engage in several important activities, including meetings with Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, official talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and meetings with several ministers and leaders of key economic corporations.

A highlight of the visit is Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's policy speech at the Kuwait Diplomatic Institute, a prestigious institution for training and academic exchange, meeting the foreign affairs manpower development needs of Kuwait in the Arab region and globally.

As of now, Kuwait is the Middle Eastern country with the largest total investment in Vietnam, notably the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex project with a capital contribution of up to 3.5 billion USD. Investment and trade in the oil and gas sector are prominent in the current relationship between the two countries.

The Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) manages the world's fourth-largest sovereign wealth fund, with total assets of approximately 1.065 trillion USD (ranking after Norway, China, and the UAE), playing a crucial role in overseas investment allocation.
