Vietnamese women have demonstrated their abilities and virtues in any situations and lines of work, greatly contributing to the national construction and development and international integration, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has affirmed.

The Government leader made the remark when meeting with female leaders, intellectuals and artists in Ha Noi on March 7 on the occasion of the International Women’s Day (March 8) and the 1982nd anniversary of the Hai Ba Trung Uprising.

He stressed that throughout Viet Nam’s history, women have upheld patriotism and indomitability, with bright examples like the Trung sisters, Ba Trieu and woman general Le Chan, or revolutionaries Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Vo Thi Sau and Nguyen Thi Dinh during the struggles for national freedom and independence. During peace time, Vietnamese women have affirmed their roles in all aspects of social life, carrying on the fine traditions.

The Government leader said the Party and State have always paid great attention to policies, mechanisms and regulations so as to facilitate women’s development and the realisation of gender equality targets.

He pointed to the fact that the rate of female deputies hit 30.26 percent in the 15th National Assembly, the highest level so far.

Viet Nam ranks 60th in the world, fourth in Asia and first in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in terms of the percentage of women in people’s elected bodies.

The country also comes third in ASEAN and 47th out of 187 countries and territories in gender equality in political participation.

PM Chinh took note of proposals and recommendations by female delegates at the event and assigned relevant agencies to consider and handle under their jurisdiction.

He emphasised the need to promote the quality of female human resources to meet the requirements of sustainable development and international integration, realising sustainable development goals.

At the event, the female delegates pledged to maintain and develop the traditional culture of the country and virtues of Vietnamese women, and further contribute to the national construction.

They expressed their wish that the Party and State will continue to pay heed to women’s development, promote gender equality and take care of the material and spiritual lives of women.
