WVR - On October 7, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, Politburo Member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung received Philippine Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs for Policy Leo H. Herrera-Lim during his working visit to Vietnam from October 6-7, 2026.

During the meeting, Minister Le Hoai Trung welcomed Undersecrtary Leo H. Herrera-Lim to Vietnam and recalled the significant achievements made by both countries following the successful state visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to the Philippines from May 31 to June 1.
The elevation of bilateral relations to an enhanced strategic partnership marks an important development, reflecting the increasing political trust and shared interests between the two nations. It also sets the stage for a deeper, more substantive, effective, and comprehensive bilateral relationship.
Minister Le Hoai Trung suggested that the foreign ministries of both countries should play a pivotal role, closely coordinating with relevant agencies to effectively implement the agreements and commitments outlined in the Joint Statement on the Enhanced Strategic Partnership between Philippines and Vietnam.
The Minister appreciated the Philippines for responsibly assuming the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2026, achieving many positive outcomes, strengthening ASEAN unity, and promoting ASEAN's central role. He expressed confidence that the Philippines would continue to successfully organize the 49th ASEAN Summit and related high-level meetings, creating a significant milestone in the first year of implementing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.

Minister Le Hoai Trung affirmed that Vietnam always values and continues to contribute to and promote ASEAN's central role in fostering dialogue, cooperation, and trust-building to proactively respond to the complex developments in the regional and international landscape.
The Philippine Undersecretary thanked Minister Le Hoai Trung for the meeting and shared insights on bilateral relations. He welcomed Vietnam's positive contributions during the Philippines' ASEAN Chairmanship, emphasizing that the Philippines values the enhanced strategic partnership with Vietnam and wishes to concretize the new relationship framework, advancing bilateral cooperation more deeply and effectively. He affirmed close coordination with Vietnam in the upcoming period to prepare for high-level diplomatic activities, maintain and enhance the effectiveness of cooperation mechanisms, and strive to further elevate economic-trade-investment cooperation.
During his working visit to Vietnam, Undersecretary Leo H. Herrera-Lim also held discussions with Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu to exchange measures to promote bilateral relations and implement cooperation in areas of mutual interest as outlined in the Joint Statement on the Enhanced Strategic Partnership between Philippines and Vietnam during the state visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to the Philippines.
