Party Central Committee Member, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong meets with Lao Deputy Foreign Minister

WVR - On March 26, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, Party Central Committee Member, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ministry's Party Committee, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong had a courtesy meeting with Lao Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Maythong Thammavongsa on the occasion of the Lao delegation attending the Lao Executive Leadership Program (LELP) 2026 in Vietnam.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Maythong Thammavongsa thanked Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong for taking the time to meet the delegation. He also highly appreciated the initiative and effective coordination between the units of the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Vietnamese training institutions in organizing the LELP 2026 Program.

Deputy Minister Maythong emphasized that this is a meaningful activity, contributing to enhancing the capacity of senior Lao leaders.

The Lao Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that the program provided practical information and analyzed lessons from Vietnam and ASEAN countries regarding industrial policy, investment attraction, and infrastructure development amid complex regional and global situations. The delegation was particularly impressed with the development model of Becamex Corporation, notably its planning and development of industrial zones linked with synchronized infrastructure and effective international cooperation.

Assessing the political relations between the two countries as continuing to develop positively, Deputy Minister Maythong Thammavongsa noted that bilateral economic cooperation still has much potential and should be vigorously promoted to match the political relations.

According to Deputy Minister Maythong, the delegation will continue practical surveys in Hai Phong and Quang Ninh to gain more experience and suggested that both sides continue to explore organizing similar training courses in the future.

Speaking at the meeting, Party Central Committee Member, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ministry's Party Committee, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong congratulated the important achievements of the Lao Party, State, and people in recent times. He affirmed that Vietnam always values and prioritizes the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation with Laos.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong emphasized that the high-level leaders of the two Parties and countries have agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a new level with the content of "strategic linkage", focusing on strengthening cooperation in training and human resource development.

The Deputy Minister appreciated the coordination between the units of both sides in organizing the LELP 2026 Program and agreed to continue listening to the Lao side's opinions to improve and enhance the quality of future training courses.

Discussing economic cooperation, Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong appreciated the Lao delegation's composition, which included many important ministries and sectors, considering it a favourable opportunity for both sides to share experiences and propose specific cooperation initiatives.

Regarding the industrial zone development model, the Deputy Minister shared the idea of promoting cooperation between Vietnam, Laos, and Singapore through industrial zone models, suggesting that both sides continue to discuss and explore implementation possibilities in the future.

Both sides agreed to enhance close coordination, address difficulties, and promote the implementation of economic cooperation projects, thereby contributing to the increasingly substantive and effective development of Vietnam-Laos cooperation.

The Lao Executive Leadership Program (LELP) 2026 takes place from March 23-28 at Fulbright University, organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It aims to provide the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs leaders, experts, and entrepreneurs with a multi-dimensional view of the global, regional, and Lao economies, while sharing Vietnam's economic reform experiences.
