Join hands to take care of the weak
Entering the spirit of "for everyone, anywhere", the Red Cross Society of Binh Duong province did not mind the difficulties and conceivable risks of disease transmission. Their noiseless steps have timely supported the disadvantaged people in hard situations amidst the pandemic spell.
The fourth wave of Covid-19 outbreak with its fast, dangerous and complicated spread has severely affected all aspects of social life in Binh Duong province. At that time, most of the staff of the Red Cross Society of Binh Duong province worked without knowing it was a weekday or weekend. They also had less time to dine with their family. Almost every day, they received commodities donated by businesses, agencies from many provinces and cities to assist the disadvantaged people.

The Red Cross Society of Binh Duong province has about 10 staff, mostly women, with a lot of work load, so, both managers and subordinates had to undertake every task from picking vegetables, distributing gifts, to carrying heavy bags of goods, etc.
There were shipments of relief aids from the province that weighed up to 40 tons, the trucks arrived late in the afternoon, so the unloading did not finish until 9-10 pm when the Red Cross officers could return home.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Trinh - Chairwoman of the Red Cross Society of Binh Duong province said: "During the pandemic spell, the people here worked very hard, sometimes they could not come home until late at night, and they had to come to work early the next day. The fresh vegetables from the provinces were sent to Binh Duong people to fight the epidemic. Due to long distance of transportation, vegetables were often partially stale. So, before sending to people, Red Cross officers had to spend time classifying the vegetables to ensure everyone in need could get the best quality goods.
Due to the impact of the pandemic, many disadvantaged people faced more difficulties, desperately in need of help, so the Red Cross staff also had to try harder to alleviate the hardship." Mrs. Trinh said.
"Zero-dong trade fair" brings in warmness
In order to help the disadvantaged people under the impact of the pandemic, the Red Cross Society of Binh Duong province has continuously organized "zero dong trade fairs" to take care of food supplies, with gifts delivered to quarantined areas to support people in difficult times. Although their work took place noiselessly and many of them were exposed to the risk of infection, they still worked day and night in the jobs they have chosen.

The trade fair is organized in the form of giving out free shopping vouchers. All commodities are offered by benefactors to share with the people through the distribution network of Provincial Red Cross. In addition to the essential items such as: rice, noodles, eggs, cooking oil, salt, fish sauce, soy sauce, sugar, monosodium glutamate, vegetables, etc, the trade fair also has practical items to serve people, such as: medical masks, antiseptic water, shampoo, bath soap, shoes, blankets, clothes, porcelain cups, and soft drinks.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong (Phuoc Sang commune, Phu Giao district, Binh Duong province), said: "Due to the outbreak of the disease and its complicated developments, the sale of lottery tickets must also be temporarily suspended. With no or less income, many families get into difficulty. Coming to the "zero-dong trade fair ", I was given gifts including rice, eggs, noodles, vegetables, etc. These are very meaningful gifts that help me to overcome the epidemic".
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Trinh, Chairwoman of the Red Cross Society of Binh Duong, the Society has maintained a regular "zero-dong trade fair" to support people who are facing difficulties, especially those who are poor such as workers, self-employed workers.
In the coming time, the Provincial Red Cross Society will continue to call for donors and benefactors to donate more gifts and cash to support those in difficult and disadvantaged situations, so that people can feel more secure to join hands with the locality in combating the pandemic.
