WVR - On April 14, local time, at the Quirinale Presidential Palace in Rome, within the framework of an official visit to the Republic of Italy, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

During the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man conveyed greetings from General Secretary and State President To Lam to President Sergio Mattarella, while congratulating Italy on its significant achievements under the President's leadership.

The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that despite the geographical distance, Vietnam and Italy share profound cultural and historical similarities in their struggles for independence. These are foundational elements to further enhance the Strategic Partnership between the two countries and aim to elevate relations in the near future.

To realize this goal, the National Assembly Chairman proposed that both countries strongly promote the role of legislative bodies, enhancing oversight of the implementation of bilateral and multilateral cooperation agreements.

Particularly, there is a need to expand cooperation into contemporary fields where Italy has strengths and Vietnam has needs, such as science and technology, artificial intelligence (AI), innovation, and high-quality human resource training...

Warmly welcoming the high-level Vietnamese delegation, President Sergio Mattarella highly appreciated the significance of the visit, emphasizing that this is the first official visit by a key Vietnamese leader to Italy following the 16th National Assembly elections and the consolidation of the State apparatus. Through National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, the President extended congratulations to General Secretary and State President To Lam.

Expressing confidence that the visit will create new momentum for connecting the two nations, the Italian President proposed to further boost bilateral trade – a pillar with significant potential in the bilateral relationship. Alongside economic ties, the President also suggested expanding exchanges and cooperation in fashion design, culture, tourism, and education...

Discussing the complex and unpredictable global and regional situation, President Sergio Mattarella particularly emphasized the protection of peace values and strongly supported multilateralism. Both leaders agreed to enhance coordination and mutual support in international and regional organizations, with a focus on the United Nations.

Addressing current regional and international issues, Vietnam and Italy share a common vision, agreeing on the resolution of all disputes through peaceful means, based on respect for international law.
