During the meeting, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man highly appreciated the role of FAO within the United Nations development system, particularly in promoting agricultural cooperation, rural development, and ensuring global food security amidst the current global challenges.
Affirming that Vietnam always regards FAO as a top important partner in agricultural and rural development, the National Assembly Chairman welcomed the cooperative projects between FAO and Vietnam's ministries, sectors, and localities, including the transformation of the food system and the implementation of a one-million-hectare high-quality, low-emission rice project in the Mekong Delta by 2030.
Expressing delight at Vietnam's establishment of a new growth model to enhance the competitiveness of its economy, focusing on science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation as the main drivers, as well as Vietnam's efforts in ensuring food security, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed Vietnam's commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture and transforming the food system; he urged FAO to coordinate and support Vietnam's efforts.
Regarding future cooperation directions, the National Assembly Chairman suggested that FAO support Vietnam in restructuring its agricultural sector towards increasing added value and developing green, sustainable, and smart agriculture to address climate change; transforming the food system, controlling diseases, especially zoonotic diseases, and enhancing digital transformation in agriculture.

FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu expressed his pleasure at meeting National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and welcoming the first high-level Vietnamese leader to visit the FAO headquarters in many years; he recalled his positive impressions from previous visits to Vietnam and witnessing Vietnam's significant transformation over the years, from the struggle for independence to its current path of development and nation-building.
Once again, congratulating Vietnam on its remarkable socio-economic development achievements, FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu stated that Vietnam has truly taken off and will continue to develop outstandingly under the wise leadership of General Secretary, President To Lam, and other Vietnamese leaders, including National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.
He praised the Vietnamese Party and State for restructuring the apparatus and adjusting policies to ensure sustainable development and improve the people's living standards. The FAO Director-General suggested that Vietnam continue sharing its experiences and spreading its exemplary development model to many countries and regions.
The FAO Director-General affirmed that FAO always regards Vietnam as an important partner in the region, appreciating Vietnam's leadership role in agriculture, welcoming the tripartite cooperation model in Africa, and the national program "One Commune, One Product" in Vietnam. He also shared the National Assembly Chairman's concern about disease issues, which is also a current concern of FAO, hoping that Vietnam will continue to accompany FAO in these efforts.
He expressed his readiness to continue promoting cooperation with Vietnam in priority areas such as transforming the sustainable food system, green agriculture, and climate change adaptation.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu agreed that Vietnam and FAO will continue to strengthen coordination, effectively implement existing cooperation programs and projects, and expand cooperation in sustainable agriculture, innovation, and food system transformation, thereby contributing to ensuring food security and sustainable development in the region and globally.
