General Secretary, President To Lam meets with Chairman of China's National People's Congress Zhao Leji

WVR - On April 15, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, as part of his state visit to China, General Secretary and President To Lam met with Zhao Leji, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China.

During the meeting, both sides shared insights on the situation of each Party, each country, and the activities of their respective legislative bodies. They expressed satisfaction with the positive development of relations between the two Parties and countries, as well as the excellent progress in exchanges and cooperation between the National Assembly of Vietnam and China's National People's Congress.

Expressing delight at visiting China for the first time in his new role, General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that the visit aims to inherit and continue the consistent policy, strategic choice, and top priority of the Party and State of Vietnam regarding Vietnam-China relations. He emphasized establishing a new strategic connection between the two Parties and countries in the new era of development, alongside Chinese leaders, including Zhao Leji.

The General Secretary and President congratulated China on its significant achievements and the success of the 4th Session of the 14th National People's Congress. He highly valued China's theoretical and practical accomplishments in building a socialist rule of law state and whole-process people's democracy, expressing confidence that China will effectively implement the 15th Five-Year Plan for high-quality economic and social development.

Warmly welcoming General Secretary and President To Lam on his first state visit to China following Vietnam's recent leadership appointments, Chairman Zhao Leji congratulated Vietnam on the successful organization of the 14th Party Congress and the first session of the 16th National Assembly. He emphasized that Vietnam and China are two socialist neighbouring countries with a long-standing tradition of friendship, sharing many similarities in political systems, development paths, and cultural and social traditions. China steadfastly supports Vietnam in successfully building socialism suitable to its national conditions.

Emphasizing the importance of institutional building and legislative work, General Secretary and President To Lam proposed deepening the friendly exchanges and cooperation between the National Assembly of Vietnam and China's National People's Congress. He suggested continuing the effective implementation of the cooperation committee mechanism between the two legislative bodies, enhancing delegation exchanges at all levels, and promoting exchanges between local People's Congresses/Councils, especially in border provinces. He also called for strengthening cooperation among specialized committees, friendship parliamentary groups, women's parliamentary groups, and young parliamentary groups, supporting each other at regional and global inter-parliamentary forums.

General Secretary and President To Lam also expressed the desire for the legislative bodies of both countries to strongly promote their roles in law-making and oversight, contributing to the continued expansion and enhancement of practical cooperation between the two sides. This includes areas such as diplomacy, defense, security, trade, investment, and tourism, with a focus on promoting more balanced trade cooperation, transitioning from conventional trade to deeper economic linkages, supply chain integration, and production chain collaboration. He emphasized enhancing transportation infrastructure connectivity, establishing special mechanisms for railway cooperation, ensuring energy security, and making scientific and technological cooperation a new highlight...

General Secretary and President To Lam also suggested that the National Assembly of Vietnam and China's National People's Congress enhance the role of elected bodies, representing the will and aspirations of the people in promoting mutual understanding. He called for better control and settlement of maritime disputes in accordance with international law, contributing to a peaceful and stable environment for the development of each country and preserving the friendship between the two sides.

Appreciating and agreeing with the important opinions of General Secretary and President To Lam on developing relations between the two Parties and countries, as well as enhancing exchanges and cooperation between the National Assembly of Vietnam and China's National People's Congress, Chairman Zhao Leji affirmed that China's National People's Congress is ready to further strengthen friendly exchanges and practical cooperation with Vietnam's National Assembly. He extended a cordial invitation to Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man to visit China soon to co-chair the second session of the cooperation committee between the two legislative bodies, actively sharing experiences in legislation and oversight, promoting strategic development connectivity between the two countries, and enhancing cultural, educational, and people-to-people exchanges, contributing positively to building a China-Vietnam Community with a Shared Future that carries strategic significance.
