NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man meets with Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae

WVR - On the afternoon of May 2, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.

During the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man welcomed Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae's official visit to Vietnam and congratulated Prime Minister Takaichi and the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (LDP) on their significant victory in the February 2026 House of Representatives election, with Ms. Takaichi being re-elected as Prime Minister of Japan. Reflecting on his official visit to Japan at the end of 2024, the Chairman expressed thanks to the Japanese Government and National Assembly for their warm reception of the Vietnamese National Assembly delegation.

Prime Minister Takaichi congratulated National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on being re-elected as Chairman of the 16th National Assembly of Vietnam and expressed appreciation for the warm and respectful reception extended by Chairman Tran Thanh Man and other key Vietnamese leaders to the delegation.

Both leaders expressed their delight at the positive and substantive development of the Vietnam-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They highly valued the role and importance of cooperation between the two countries' National Assemblies and agreed to further enhance political trust, promote high-level exchanges, and strengthen interactions between specialized committees of the two National Assemblies, as well as bolster activities and cooperation of the friendship parliamentary groups, young parliamentarians, and female parliamentarians of both countries.

Prime Minister Takaichi praised the role of the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentary Group, with Prime Minister Le Minh Hung serving as Chairman of the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentary Group.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man also announced that the 16th National Assembly of Vietnam would soon reorganize the Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Groups with other countries, with the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentary Group maintaining a very important role.

Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized that the Vietnamese National Assembly will continue to play its role in overseeing and promoting the commitments and cooperation agreements between the two countries, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, and investment. He appreciated Japan's direct investment and ODA for Vietnam's socio-economic development and affirmed readiness to create a transparent and favourable legal environment for foreign investors, including Japanese enterprises.

The NA Chairman proposed that the Japanese Government continue to support new-generation ODA for Vietnam and facilitate Japanese enterprises in implementing large-scale investment projects that showcase Japanese technology in areas of Japan’s strength and Vietnam’s demand.

Citing complementary strengths, he proposed deeper cooperation in technology, semiconductors, strategic supply chains, artificial intelligence, renewable and clean energy, digital transformation, biotechnology and smart infrastructure.

Prime Minister Takaichi expressed Japan’s support for Vietnam’s reform agenda and development goals, affirming Japan’s desire to accompany Vietnam in its new development phase, and step up cooperation and exchanges through Party and National Assembly channels.

Japan will continue its support to and cooperation with Vietnam in economic and energy security, with top priority given to collaboration in hi-tech sectors such as AI, semiconductors, and space technology, the leader stressed.

She also proposed that the Vietnamese National Assembly support the early ratification of agreements between the two Governments on the development of the Vietnam–Japan University and non-refundable aid projects.

The NA Chairman thanked and called on the Japanese Government to continue safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of nearly 700,000 Vietnamese citizens living, studying, and working in Japan, who serve as an important bridge of friendship between the two countries.

Noting cooperation with Japan in Can Tho, including the construction of Can Tho Bridge, Japanese investments, education and workforce development, he expressed wish to further boost locality-to-locality and people-to-people exchanges, particularly between Can Tho and Japan.

Prime Minister Takaichi noted that the Japanese Government is adopting measures to facilitate stable living and working conditions for foreign residents, including Vietnamese nationals, as well as address consular issues. She also expressed her desire to further push people-to-people exchanges in the coming time.

She commended and thanked Vietnam for its contributions to the success of Expo Osaka Kansai 2025, and accepting the invitation to join the International Horticultural Expo 2027 (GREEN EXPO) in Yokohama.

Amid complex global and regional landscapes, NA Chairman Man affirmed that the Vietnamese NA looks forward to continuing close coordination with the National Diet of Japan at multilateral parliamentary forums such as the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

On this occasion, the NA Chairman extended an invitation to Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives Mori Eisuke to visit Vietnam in the near future.
