Ministry of Foreign Affairs supports Vietnam-Uganda Business Forum, promoting effective cooperation
WVR - On August 12, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Anh Tuan attended and delivered a welcome speech at the Vietnam-Uganda Business Forum. The event was organized by the Embassy of Uganda in Malaysia, concurrently accredited to Vietnam, and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), following a proposal from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs leadership, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan praised the organization of the Vietnam-Uganda Business Forum, highlighting the numerous opportunities for expanding cooperation in potential fields such as agriculture, energy, tourism, mining, and digital transformation.
Recognizing Africa as an emerging growth driver and a focal point for global economic investment, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan noted that Uganda is rising as one of the continent's most significant economies, paving the way for new cooperation opportunities between Uganda and Vietnam.
Affirming Vietnam's desire to build an equal, trustworthy, and mutually beneficial partnership with Uganda and other African nations, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan emphasized that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam is ready to accompany and closely coordinate with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and other agencies and ministries to resolve obstacles, serve as a bridge to support Vietnamese businesses and international partners in connecting, expanding markets, and promoting effective cooperation.

The forum, themed "Uganda - The Pearl of Africa", was led by Uganda's Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries Frank Tumwebaze and Minister of Information and National Guidance Justine Kasule Lumumba. It attracted over 300 representatives from ministries, agencies, and businesses from Uganda and Vietnam, demonstrating high interest in the potential for cooperation between the two countries.
Earlier, on August 11, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, Director General of the Department of Middle East and Africa Nguyen Phuong Tra held a working session with Mr. Richard Kabonero, Director General of the Department of Regional Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda, to promote bilateral cooperation activities within the framework of the Forum and discuss bilateral cooperation measures for the future.
The Ugandan side thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam for accompanying and supporting the organization of the Forum and reported on the results of several working sessions between the Ugandan business delegation and Vietnamese ministries and agencies.
Director General Richard Kabonero emphasised the desire for Vietnam to transfer agricultural knowledge, techniques, and technology, attract investment from major Vietnamese technology enterprises, and facilitate better conditions for tourism companies from both countries, including exploring the possibility of opening a direct flight route between Vietnam and Uganda.

Director General Nguyen Phuong Tra expressed gratitude to Uganda for choosing Vietnam as the destination for the "Uganda - The Pearl of Africa" Forum, providing an opportunity for Vietnamese businesses to access the potential market of over 50 million people in Uganda and the East African region. She hopes Ugandan businesses will also connect with promising business opportunities in Vietnam, thereby expanding cooperation with the Asia-Pacific region.
The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam provided information on the country's major development orientations following the 14th Party Congress, new policies facilitating businesses, and proposed that the two foreign ministries further promote negotiations and sign cooperation agreements to create a protective foundation for businesses, such as investment protection encouragement agreements and double taxation avoidance agreements.
Both sides agreed to prioritize the practical implementation of mutually concerned cooperation areas in agriculture, digital transformation, energy, and tourism.
| In the broader development picture of Africa, Uganda is emerging as one of the most important economies in East Africa due to its central position connecting with the East African Community (EAC), a young workforce, significant agricultural potential, and abundant mineral resources. Vietnam and Uganda share a traditional friendship, with many generations of Ugandan leaders and people having supported Vietnam's struggle for independence and national unity. Recently, bilateral economic cooperation has made significant progress, with bilateral trade turnover in 2025 doubling compared to 2024. |
