At the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Le Hoai Trung, Minister in charge of the General Secretariat of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania Moctar Al Housseynou Lam will pay an official visit to Vietnam from 15 to 18 July 2026.

Mauritania is a country in West Africa, bordering the Atlantic Ocean to the West, with many natural resources, including iron ore and oil.

Vietnam and Mauritania officially established diplomatic relations on March 15, 1965. The two countries have always had a good tradition of friendship and cooperation.

Within the framework of the 19th Francophonie Summit in Paris in 2024, General Secretary, President To Lam had a meeting with Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, incumbent President of the African Union (AU). In this meeting, the two sides agreed to strengthen delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels and channels, contributing to further deepening political trust, creating new impulses for bilateral cooperation in the coming time.
