Indian poet’s 163rd birth anniversary marked in Bac Ninh

Bac Ninh authorities and the Indian embassy have made a floral tribute to mark the 163rd birth anniversary of Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore (May 7, 1861 - 2024) at the northern province’s international friendship park.

At the May 7 event in Bac Ninh, flowers were laid at the statue of Tagore, while local students and members of the Indian community in Hanoi performed poetry and music pieces related to the polymath, who was also a playwright, song composer, and painter.

At the ceremony, Mr. Subhash Prasad Gupta, Deputy Ambassador of India to Vietnam, and delegates offered flowers to the statue of Great Poet Tagore located at Bac Ninh Province International Friendship Park.

Students in the province and the Indian community in Hanoi performed poetic and musical works related to the great poet Tagore. Great scholar Rabindranath Tagore is one of India's great cultural celebrities. In 1913, he was the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, in which the collection "Poetry Offering" is an outstanding work. Not only a famous poet, Tagore is also a playwright, talented painter, composer... He is also the author of the National Anthems of India and Bangladesh.

Tagore offered Indian poetry an ancient atmosphere, a spirit of closeness and intimacy; Expressing the delicate vibrations in the poet's soul towards the country, homeland, nature, life, people and love in a passionate, earnest tone. Tagore's poetry also contains profound insights about the universe, people, life, happiness, and love. The storage substance - the fragrant stream of ly and harmony is difficult to separate in a poem by Tagore.

Tagore is one of the great cultural figures of India. He became the first Asian to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 then visited Vietnam in 1929. Many Vietnamese scholars have studied and translated his works, and his poems have been included in textbooks in the Southeast Asian country's national education curriculum.

On October 15, 2023, a statue dedicated to him was inaugurated at Bac Ninh’s International Friendship Park.
