Inauguration of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing, China

WVR - On October 29, the inauguration ceremony of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing, China, took place in Chongqing city. This marks the establishment of Vietnam's representative office in Western China.

The event marks a new milestone in the development of friendly and cooperative relations between Vietnam and China in general, and between Vietnam and Western China in particular.

Attending the inauguration ceremony on the Chinese side were Hu Henghua, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Deputy Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee, and Mayor of Chongqing; Long Zhou, Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs; along with numerous representatives from various agencies, units, districts, and counties of Chongqing city and Sichuan province.

On the Vietnamese side, attendees included Pham Thanh Binh, Vietnamese Ambassador to China; Nguyen Duc Hien, Deputy Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Committee; Doan Hoang Minh, Director General of the Consular Department of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs; representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy, and Vietnamese Consulates General in China; a large community of Vietnamese expatriates, businesses, and students in China; along with many Consuls General and representatives from Consulates General of other countries in Chongqing and Chengdu.

Speaking at the inauguration, on behalf of the Vietnamese Government, Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh emphasized that the establishment of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing reflects Vietnam's consistent policy of continuously strengthening and expanding friendly cooperation with China. It aims to promote exchanges and cooperation between localities of the two countries, with a focus on deepening cooperation and enhancing connectivity with Chongqing, Sichuan, and other strategic breakthrough points in China's new era of Western development. This aligns with the robust and comprehensive development of Vietnam-China relations in recent times.

“The presence of the Vietnamese Consulate General here not only holds significant political-diplomatic importance but also opens a new, direct, and effective channel connecting Vietnam with China's dynamic localities. It contributes to deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and promoting the building of a Vietnam-China Community with a shared future of strategic significance,” Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh emphasized.

According to Ambassador, alongside the positive development of Vietnam-China relations in recent times, cooperation between the localities of the two countries has become increasingly vibrant and effective, serving as a highlight in bilateral relations. The Chongqing-Sichuan area is emerging as a leading center for industry, logistics, and science-technology in China.

More and more Vietnamese localities are fostering friendly cooperative relations with Chongqing city and Sichuan province in fields such as transportation, logistics, high-tech agriculture, tourism, culture, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee, Mayor Hu Henghua, and Long Zhou, Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, warmly congratulated the inauguration of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing. They emphasized that the inauguration of the Consulate General is a significant event as the two Parties and countries celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 2025 Year of Cultural Exchange. It marks a new development in the friendly and cooperative relations between China and Vietnam.

Mayor Hu Henghua and Director-General Long Zhou affirmed that the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chongqing city administration will closely coordinate and facilitate the Consulate General in fulfilling its role as a bridge for cooperation between Chongqing, Sichuan, and Vietnamese localities. They expressed confidence that the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing will make positive contributions to promoting the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and building a Vietnam-China Community with a shared future of strategic significance. It will also foster continuous development of exchanges and cooperation between Chongqing, Sichuan, and Vietnamese localities in the future.

Vietnamese Consul General in Chongqing Bui Nguyen Long affirmed that the establishment of the Consulate General is the realization of the shared understanding and high-level agreements between the leaders of the two Parties and States. It demonstrates the strong determination of both sides to make the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and China more substantive, effective, and sustainable.

As a new bridge in the "Bridge Capital of the World" – Chongqing, the Vietnamese Consulate General will connect Vietnam with Chongqing city and Sichuan province. It will strive to promote delegation exchanges between departments and localities of both sides, enhance cooperation in economy, trade, investment, culture, tourism, education-training, and people-to-people exchanges. This will strengthen understanding, trust, and friendship between the peoples of the two countries. Additionally, the Consulate General will serve as a common home for the Vietnamese community in the Chongqing-Sichuan area.

During the inauguration ceremony, a performance of the Ao Dai collection by designer David Le (Le Anh Tuan) conveyed a message of national pride and aspiration for national development in the new era to Chinese and international friends.
