Inauguration of the Vietnam Studies Centre at Thailand's Khon Kaen University

WVR - On September 9, the inauguration ceremony of the Vietnam Studies Center at Khon Kaen University, Northeastern Thailand, was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand.

Attendees included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, Rector of Khon Kaen University; Mr. Surapon Petch-vra, Vice Chairman of the Khon Kaen University Council; Senator, Medical Doctor Premsak Piayura, Member of the Senate, Member of the Thailand-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Group; Mr. Yuttaporn Piroonsarn, Deputy Governor of Khon Kaen Province; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Orathai Piayura, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University; Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Binh, Head of the Faculty of Linguistics and Vietnam Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Mr. Ho Van Lam, President of the Vietnamese Association in Thailand, President of the Thai-Vietnamese Business Association in Thailand; Mr. Cao Tat Minh, President of the Thai-Vietnamese Association in Khon Kaen Province, along with representatives from various agencies, organizations, the Vietnamese community, and Thai friends.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Consul General in Khon Kaen Dinh Hoang Linh stressed that the establishment of the Vietnam Studies Centre originated from the initiative of the Vietnamese Consulate General. He expressed gratitude for the close cooperation and investment efforts of Khon Kaen University, as well as the support and collaboration from Vietnamese partners and the community.

According to Consul General Dinh Hoang Linh, over the past 50 years since the official establishment of diplomatic relations, Vietnam-Thailand relations have seen significant developments, with strengthened political trust and a comprehensive strategic partnership that opens up vast cooperation opportunities across all fields.

Consul General Dinh Hoang Linh emphasised that in the enthusiastic atmosphere of celebrating the Day of Honouring the Vietnamese Language, which is being actively observed in many places worldwide, the inauguration of the Vietnam Studies Centre is a special event with significant meaning. It demonstrates solidarity with the overseas Vietnamese community and marks a milestone in the history of Vietnam-Thailand relations, contributing to the realization of Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW on the development of Vietnamese culture and Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW on overseas Vietnamese affairs.

The Vietnamese Consulate General in Khon Kaen, Thailand, will continue to accompany and collaborate in developing the Vietnam Studies Center into an academic space aimed at enhancing multidimensional understanding of Vietnam. It will serve as a foundation to promote cultural and educational cooperation, people-to-people exchanges, and connect the younger generations of the two countries.

The Vietnam Studies Centre is expected to serve as a bridge connecting knowledge, gathering, and spreading the beautiful values of both nations. It will nurture the spirit of solidarity and friendship between the people of Vietnam and Thailand, contributing to building a solid foundation for future cooperation between the two countries.

Sharing at the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, Rector of Khon Kaen University, also affirmed that the establishment of the Vietnam Studies Centre is an important goal of Khon Kaen University, especially as Thailand and Vietnam celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

He believes the Vietnam Studies Centre will play a crucial role in promoting Vietnamese language teaching, knowledge exchange, and building an academic cooperation network, benefiting the youth, academia, government, private sector, and people of both countries.

Rector of Khon Kaen University Charnchai Panthongviriyakul assessed that the Vietnam Studies Center has received multifaceted support from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Khon Kaen and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. He also noted that this is not only a center for learning the Vietnamese language and culture but also a symbol of friendship, trust, and cooperation between Thailand and Vietnam.

At the event, the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Vietnam Studies Centre was solemnly held. Consul General Dinh Hoang Linh expressed gratitude to the Rector and the leadership of Khon Kaen University; he presented a photo of President Ho Chi Minh working in the garden of the Presidential Palace, 50 copies of the book Ho Chi Minh in Thailand and Following in His Footsteps, over 200 books from the Vietnam Education Publishing House, and three sets of Vietnamese language learning tables to the Vietnam Studies Centre.

Within the framework of the ceremony, Khon Kaen University and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This opens up many opportunities for the young generation, Vietnamese and Thai students, and the local Vietnamese community to exchange, study, and work. The younger generation is the inheritor, continuing the beautiful cooperation history between Vietnam and Thailand in the coming decades.

The scope and influence of the Vietnam Studies Centre at Khon Kaen University are not limited to Northeastern Thailand but also carry the mission of connecting cultural and educational cooperation and promoting people-to-people exchanges among countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion.
