With the delivery of medical equipment worth about 21,000,000,000 Dong (about 825,000€), Germany continues its ongoing support to the Vietnamese government in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The delivery is also a reaffirmation of Germany and Viet Nam's deepened cooperation on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the two countries' Strategic Partnership.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had asked German Chancellor Angela Merkel in August 2021 to support Viet Nam in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, including in particular the delivery of vaccines and medical equipment.

In her response to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, German Chancellor Angela Merkel pledged to supply respirators and pulse oximeters in addition to vaccine doses. The medical equipment arrived at Noi Bai International Airport in Ha Noi on November 13 and was transferred from there to the COVID-19 Hospital.

On the occasion of the handover of the medical equipment, Ambassador Hildner stated:

"I am very pleased about this delivery of important medical equipment for the pandemic response in Viet Nam. The equipment will support the intensive medical treatment of people severely ill with COVID-19 and contribute to their recovery. Germany stands with Viet Nam in containing and overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic. We can only overcome the pandemic together. Germany will continue to support Viet Nam to the best of its ability in the fight against the pandemic."

As early as September 2021, Germany had provided a total of 3.45 million doses of Astra Zeneca's COVID-19 vaccine to support Viet Nam's vaccination campaign.
