On the morning of April 29, commemorating the 51st anniversary of the complete Liberation of the South and reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2026), under the National Flagpole at the special national relic site of Hien Luong-Ben Hai (Quang Tri Province), the Party Committee, government, and people of Quang Tri solemnly organized the 2026 'Reunification of the Nation' flag-raising ceremony.

The 'Reunification of the Nation' flag-raising ceremony is a sacred occasion to reflect on the nation's heroic yet tragic historical journey and to honour immortal victories, expressing deep gratitude for the immense sacrifices of previous generations for the independence, freedom, and territorial integrity of the nation.

General Secretary, President To Lam attended the ceremony.

Also in attendance were Politburo members: Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee's Organization Commission; Le Minh Tri, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee's Internal Affairs Commission; General Phan Van Giang, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense; General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security; members of the Party Central Committee, government leaders, National Assembly leaders, leaders of central departments, ministries, and organizations, leaders of the Military Region 4 Command and Quang Tri Province, along with numerous citizens and visitors from within and outside the province.

At the ceremony, Nguyen Van Phuong, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee, delivered a speech stating that after the Geneva Agreement in 1954, the Ben Hai River at the 17th parallel became a temporary military demarcation line with the hope of leading to a general election to reunify the country.

However, due to the sabotage actions of the American imperialists and their puppet regime, the agreement was not implemented, causing our country to suffer division for 21 years, with the pain of a nation split in two, the homeland divided into two regions.

In this context, Quang Tri, along with the military and people nationwide, bravely and resiliently fought to firmly protect the demarcation line, thwarting attempts to expand the war to the North.

Under the enemy's relentless bombardment, the flag on the Hien Luong flagpole proudly flew, becoming a symbol of the trust and determination for reunification of the North and South.

From this spirit, our military and people achieved many glorious victories associated with places like Quang Tri Citadel, Vinh Moc Tunnels, Gianh Ferry, and Victory Route 20, contributing to the immortal epic, affirming the sacred truth: Vietnam is one, the Vietnamese nation is one, rivers may dry up, mountains may erode, but this truth will never change.

The Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee expressed that although the war has receded, the memories of those heroic, tragic years remain intact in the hearts of every Vietnamese, especially the people of Quang Tri.

Hien Luong-Ben Hai forever remains a sacred symbol of the will for reunification, the aspiration for peace, and the steadfast belief in the day when the North and South reunite as one family.

In this solemn and emotional moment, we respectfully remember and eternally thank the great President Ho Chi Minh, expressing deep gratitude to the heroic Vietnamese mothers, martyrs, families of those who contributed, war invalids, and all compatriots and soldiers nationwide who dedicated and sacrificed for peace, national independence, and the happiness of the people.

The Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee stated that today, Quang Tri, with a new development space, is rising strongly, becoming a land rich in potential and advantages, opening up new development opportunities.
