Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung hosts African Ambassadors on occasion of Africa Day

On May 21, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung held a meeting with the Group of African Ambassadors in Vietnam.

On the occasion of the 63rd Africa Day anniversary (May 25, 1963 - May 25, 2026), Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung extended warm congratulations to the governments, people of African nations, and the entire African community living and working in Vietnam.

Recalling the historical ties when President Ho Chi Minh and African political activists founded the anti-imperialism movement, the Foreign Minister noted that this historical bond has laid the foundation for the special connection between Vietnam and African countries, characterized by continuous solidarity and mutual support since gaining national independence to the present day.

Praising the potential, position, and spirit of unity across the continent, Minister Le Hoai Trung emphasized the need for both sides to enhance mutual trust and understanding, creating a foundation for relations between Africa and Vietnam.

The Minister proposed finding specific measures to strengthen substantive cooperation in areas such as economy, trade, investment, tourism, energy, food security, healthcare, non-traditional security fields, and cooperation on multilateral forums.

The Minister also suggested that both sides exchange and identify effective cooperation mechanisms, including bilateral and trilateral, to share experiences and cooperative initiatives.

Minister Le Hoai Trung highlighted the historical solidarity and close friendship between Vietnam and African countries from the time of the struggle for national independence to the present.

Expressing thanks for the warm reception by Minister Le Hoai Trung, Moroccan Ambassador Jamale Chouaibi, Head of the Group of African Ambassadors/Chargés d'affaires in Vietnam, congratulated Vietnam on the successful organization of the 14th National Party Congress and the 16th National Assembly and People's Council elections, and expressed high appreciation for Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements and its growing international stature.

The Ambassadors emphasized that African countries highly value Vietnam's capabilities, considering it a reliable partner and a development model, and expressed a desire to expand cooperation further in areas such as food security, healthcare, mineral processing, capacity development, education and training, and tourism.

Agreeing with Minister Le Hoai Trung's views on finding effective cooperation mechanisms, the Ambassadors proposed that both sides complete the legal framework and action plans for cooperation, accompanied by evaluation mechanisms, to facilitate trade, travel, and people-to-people exchanges...

Minister Le Hoai Trung acknowledged and highly appreciated the initiatives of the Group of African Ambassadors in Vietnam, especially the proposal to promote FTA negotiations, establish the African Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam, and strengthen cooperation between the African Union and ASEAN.

The Minister suggested that the Group of African Ambassadors and Chargés d'affaires actively coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs units, regularly exchanging solutions for cooperation.

Concluding the meeting, Minister Le Hoai Trung expressed confidence that the Group of African Ambassadors will continue to play an effective role as a bridge, elevating Vietnam-Africa cooperation to new heights, serving the practical implementation of development goals for both sides.
