According to the TasteAtlas rankings updated on September 15, 2026, Vietnamese dipping sauce scored 4.3/5, placing third in the list of the 34 most highly-rated dipping sauces worldwide.

TasteAtlas notes that dipping sauce is often made from fish sauce, sugar, water, and lime juice or vinegar. Depending on the dish and personal taste, Vietnamese people may add garlic, chili, shallots, scallions, ginger, or various herbs. The variation in proportions and ingredients creates different nuances, from rich and spicy to tangy and sweet.
Dipping sauce appears in many Vietnamese meals, served with spring rolls, banh xeo, meat dishes, seafood, and various noodle dishes. For many dishes, it is not just a side but also helps balance flavors and connects the components of the meal.
Mam Nem also featured in the rankings
In addition to dipping sauce, another familiar Vietnamese condiment, mam nem, is also included in the TasteAtlas list, ranking 15th with a score of 3.9/5.
Mam nem is made from fermented fish, featuring a distinctive strong flavor and is often mixed with sugar, chili, and garlic before serving. This sauce appears in many dishes, especially in the Central region.
The inclusion of two Vietnamese dipping sauces in the TasteAtlas rankings highlights the diversity of the spice system in Vietnamese cuisine.
