Dien Bien ready for the National Tourism Year - Dien Bien and the Hoa Ban Festival 2024

These days, Dien Bien province has put all its attention to preparing for activities to mark the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - 2024).

Together with serving visitors, the Dien Bien Provincial Relics Management Board has pro-actively developed detailed plans and coordinated with authorities to popularize the opening ceremony of the National Tourism Year - Dien Bien and the Hoa Ban Festival 2024.

The Northern province now has 130 restaurants and 19 tourist attractions and entertainment sites that can serve over 80,000 visitors at the same time. Regarding accommodation facilities, the whole province has 205 tourist accommodation establishments with nearly 2,800 rooms and about 5,100 beds. Dien Bien Phu city and surrounding localities alone have 121 accommodation establishments.

The province has over the past time fostered dissemination and mobilized households in Dien Bien Phu city and Dien Bien district for their support in accommodation for tourists during the peak time from early March to late May. In addition, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dien Bien province has requested and guided tourism businesses to upgrade facilities to ensure the best service for visitors and provide price lists publicly.

At the request of leaders of Dien Bien province, accommodation establishments, restaurants, travel and tourism service units, businesses, cooperatives, and households providing commercial services and OCOP products have focused on food hygiene and safety.

According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Phu, Director of Dien Bien’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, with the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory [the victorious battle of the Vietnam's People's Army over the French from March 13 to May 7, 1954], the National Tourism Year 2024 is significant for the province both nationally and internationally.

The year 2024 is also the 115th anniversary of the establishment of the province, the 75th anniversary of the Provincial Party Committee, and the 270th anniversary of Hoang Cong Chat's peasant insurgency against the Le-Trinh court.

“We expect that the National Tourism Year can become a breakthrough for the province and create motivation for Dien Bien’s development regarding tourism and socio-economy, and achieving sustainable poverty reduction”, he said.

Especially a series of activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory such as: Rallies, military parades, Special art shows and high-altitude fireworks displays; Film week commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024); Bicycle racing tournament "Returning to Dien Bien Phu - People's Army Newspaper Cup"; Exhibition "Vietnam cultural heritage and tourism in 2024"...

Through the organization of National Tourism Year - Dien Bien 2024 to promote the mobilization of development investment resources and strengthen socio-economic infrastructure; exploit local potentials and advantages, develop the economy, ensure social security; reduce poverty quickly and sustainably, improve the material and spiritual life of the people; preserve and promote the value of ethnic cultural identities and national historical relics, especially Dien Bien Phu Battlefield; contribute to stimulating domestic and international tourism demand, create steps to develop tourism into a key economic sector and building Dien Bien province into one of the tourism centers of the Northern Midlands and Mountains region.
