Deputy FM Le Thi Thu Hang welcomes Director of the French Development Agency (AFD)

WVR - On December 3, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang met with Julien Seillant, Director of the French Development Agency (AFD) in Vietnam, as he begins his term in the country.

During the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Thu Hang welcomed and congratulated Mr. Julien Seillant on his appointment as Director of AFD Vietnam, especially as the Vietnam-France Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is experiencing significant growth. Deputy Foreign Minister Thu Hang highly valued the frequent high-level exchanges and visits between the two countries in recent times; cooperation in education, healthcare, and science and technology are becoming pillars of the new cooperation framework, enhancing political trust and mutual understanding between the peoples of both nations.

On this occasion, Deputy Foreign Minister Thu Hang expressed gratitude and appreciation for AFD's consistent and effective contributions over the past 30 years to Vietnam-France relations. She believes AFD will continue to be an important partner contributing to Vietnam's development in the new era.

During the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang highly valued the frequent high-level exchanges and visits between the two countries in recent times.

Director Julien Seillant emphasized that AFD's current priorities focus on projects addressing climate change, supporting localities in enhancing resilience and recovery from climate impacts, while promoting energy transition and optimizing transportation and urban infrastructure to reduce emissions. The AFD Director affirmed continued close cooperation with European and international partners to mobilize not only financial resources but also advanced technical and technological expertise to boost cooperative projects with Vietnam.

Both sides agreed to collaborate to deepen and enhance the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation, including exploring projects with Hanoi in urban transport, planning, landscape renovation, water supply and drainage, and the preservation and promotion of the value of French colonial architecture in Vietnam, such as Long Bien Bridge.

Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed that Vietnam always supports and facilitates AFD's active role and effective operations in the country, ensuring successful implementation of cooperative projects that match the stature of the Vietnam-France Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The Deputy Foreign Minister also expressed confidence that Director Julien Seillant will have a successful term in Vietnam.
