AWCH members experienced playing Indonesian Angklung in Hanoi

WVR - On the afternoon of February 21, in Hanoi, Spouse of Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Kristien Abdi hosted a gathering for members of ASEAN Community Women's Circle of Hanoi (AWCH) to experience playing Angklung, an Indonesian musical instrument.

Attending the gathering were the Honorary President of the ASEAN Community Women's Circle of Hanoi, Spouse of Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Madam Vu Thi Bich Ngoc, and other ladies who are members of AWCH.

This is the first gathering of the AWCH members in the Lunar New Year of the Cat to introduce the culture and cuisine of ASEAN member countries.

On this occasion, AWCH welcomed Spouse of the Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam who participates in the group's activities for the first time.

AWCH members were introduced to Angklung, an Indonesian traditional musical instrument made of bamboo, which was recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010.

The Angklung is a musical instrument made of a varying number of bamboo tubes attached to a bamboo frame. The base of the frame is held in one hand of the player, while the other hand shakes the instrument, causing a repeating note to sound.

After listening to the introduction, ASEAN ladies have joyfully experienced being Angklung players.
