100th Birth Anniversary of Cuban Revolutionary Leader Fidel Castro Ruz commemorated in Quang Tri
WVR - On the morning of August 13, on the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of Cuban Revolutionary Leader Fidel Castro Ruz (August 13, 1926–August 13, 2026), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the People's Committee of Quang Tri Province and the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam, solemnly organized a commemorative ceremony at Fidel Castro Park, Dong Ha Ward, Quang Tri Province.

The ceremony was attended by the leadership of Quang Tri Province, leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ambassador and staff of the Cuban Embassy and Consulate General in Vietnam, representatives of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association, leaders of various departments, and a large number of people, officials, armed forces, children, and students from Quang Tri Province.
In his speech at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri Province Le Duc Tien respectfully recalled the special historical relationship between Vietnam and Cuba, the special affection of Leader Fidel Castro for the country and people of Vietnam, especially Quang Tri Province. He affirmed that President Fidel Castro's revolutionary career is a symbol of the indomitable spirit, courage, and aspiration for freedom of the Cuban people. He expressed gratitude for President Fidel Castro's significant contributions in laying the foundation, developing, and strengthening the special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba.
He emotionally recalled the immortal saying “For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to shed its own blood” and Leader Fidel's historic visit to Quang Tri in September 1973. He affirmed that Quang Tri will continue to preserve and promote the special friendship between the two Parties, the two States, and the peoples of both countries, working together for cooperation, development, and building a prosperous and happy future.
At the ceremony, representatives of historical witnesses and the younger generation of Quang Tri Province expressed pride in the exemplary historical relationship between Vietnam and Cuba. They pledged to continue inheriting and promoting the special Vietnam-Cuba relationship, writing new golden pages in the history of this special friendship.
Speaking at the event, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes recalled the illustrious life and revolutionary career of Leader Fidel Castro. He expressed appreciation and high regard for organizing the 100th birth anniversary of Leader Fidel Castro in Quang Tri Province, a locality with historical significance in the special Vietnam-Cuba friendship. He expressed joy at the significant achievements Vietnam and Quang Tri Province have made in the renovation process and the implementation of the 14th Congress Resolution. He thanked the solidarity and steadfast support of the Party, State, and people of Vietnam for Cuba. He affirmed the special, loyal, and rare relationship between the two Parties and countries, laid by Leader Fidel Castro and President Ho Chi Minh, which has always been preserved and developed by the peoples of both countries. He emphasized that the thoughts of Leader Fidel Castro and President Ho Chi Minh will forever live on in the revolutionary causes of Vietnam and Cuba.
Before the ceremony, delegates and representatives of the people laid flowers in memory of Leader Fidel Castro at the Fidel Castro Monument in Fidel Castro Park.
On the same day, the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri Province held meeting and exchanged views with Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes on the traditional friendship between Quang Tri Province and Cuba, and the potential for expanding cooperation between Quang Tri Province and Cuba in potential fields such as agriculture, education, healthcare, and biotechnology.
