Speaking at the event, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu said that in 2020 when the COVID-19 breaks out across the world, many celebration programs and activities cannot be organized, but the bilateral partnership has been bolstered as the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement takes effect.

The two countries have also coordinated closely at regional and multilateral forums when Vietnam assumes the Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2020 and Germany is the Chair of the European Union in the second half of the year, he added.

Dinh Toan Thang, Director General of the Europe Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed his belief that with existing cooperation mechanisms, especially the Vietnam-Germany Strategic Plan of Action for 2019-2021, the two countries will continue coordinating closely to boost multifaceted collaboration and contribute more to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the regions and the world.

Petra Sigmund, Director General for East Asia, Southeast Asia and Pacific under the German Federal Foreign Office, said that the German Government recently adopted Policy Guidelines for the Indo-Pacific, which appreciate the role of ASEAN in the region.

She also said Vietnam is an attractive destination for European investors, particularly in the context that the region’s enterprises are shifting their investments to Southeast Asia.

The view was also shared by Marko Walde, Chief Representative of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam.

He affirmed that the Vietnamese Government is offering more open and transparent mechanisms for foreign investors, thus helping them conduct business and investment activities in Vietnam easily.
