Vietnamese Ambassador to Greece promotes cooperation in technology development

WVR - On June 16, Vietnamese Ambassador to Greece Pham Thi Thu Huong worked with Stavros Kalafatis, Deputy Minister in charge of research and innovation, Ministry of Development of Greece, former Chairman of the Greece-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians' Association of the Greek Parliament.

Ambassador Pham Thi Thu Huong worked with Mr. Stavros Kalafatis, Deputy Minister in charge of research and innovation, Ministry of Development of Greece.

At the meeting, the Vietnamese Ambassador congratulated Deputy Minister Stavros Kalafatis on his new position and hoped for his continued support and assistance in promoting bilateral cooperation in research, application of technology development and innovation, which are areas of cooperation mentioned by the Prime Ministers of the two countries at the meeting on the occasion of the third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3) in Nice, France on June 9, 2025.

She said Vietnam gave top priority to the development of science and technology and technological innovation, considering this an important measure to bring the country into a new stage of development.

Ambassador Pham Thi Thu Huong shared 11 strategic technology groups, recently approved by Vietnamese Prime Minister for the Greek side to consider as potential areas for bilateral cooperation and coordination.

For his part, Deputy Minister Stavros Kalafatis said that research and development of technology and innovation are among the top priorities in the Greek Government's economic development strategy. He added that advancement of science, technology and innovation is also becoming an important development direction of the European Union (EU) and many other countries in the world.

In Greece, the Council for Research on Technology Application in Life and Promotion of Innovation, consisting of leading scientists, was recently established with the primary goal of bringing achievements of science and technology, especially artificial intelligence, to all people.

Currently, the Greek Government is promoting the connection between researchers, scientists, industries and businesses; through promoting the development of startups to bring the applications of technological achievements and the benefits of technology and artificial intelligence to the public.

The Deputy Minister of Development of Greece said that he would forward the information shared by the Vietnamese Ambassador to the Director of the Greek Council for Applied Research in Technology and Innovation to study the possibility of cooperation between the two sides.

At the meeting, the Vietnamese Ambassador expressed her hope for the continued support of Deputy Minister Stavros Kalafatis in his capacity as a member of the Greek Parliament representing Thessaloniki delegation, in promoting bilateral parliamentarian cooperation, forstering ties between Vietnam and the Thessaloniki city, supporting activities organized by the Vietnamese Embassy on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Greece diplomatic relations.
