Hang made the statement on April 19 in response to China's announcement on the establishment of the so-called “Xisha district” (Vietnam’s Hoang Sa archipelago), and “Nansha district” (Vietnam’s Truong Sa archipelago) under “Sansha city”.
The Spokesperson reiterated that Vietnam has ample historical evidence and legal basis to affirm its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands.
The aforesaid acts taken by China are invalid and not recognized, seriously violating Vietnam’s sovereignty.
These acts are not conducive to the development of the friendly relations between the two countries and further complicate the situation in the East Sea, the region and the world.
“Vietnam demands that China respect Vietnam sovereignty, put an end to its wrongful decisions and not repeat similar activities in the future,” Hang stressed.
