Speaking at the conference, Vietnamese Ambassador to France Trinh Duc Hai emphasized that the IEA's decision is a clear testament to Vietnam's relentless efforts and strong determination in its energy transition journey and global climate action.

Joining the IEA is particularly significant as Vietnam enters a new development phase, steadfast in its goals of carbon neutrality and green energy transition. Vietnam strongly supports the shared vision of building a truly global energy organization that accurately reflects emerging energy trends and balances the interests of member and associate countries. Vietnam is ready and will actively contribute to global energy dialogues.

In his opening speech, Dr. Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the IEA, affirmed that member countries highly value the deepening cooperation with Vietnam, aiming for a secure, sustainable, and affordable global energy system. He highlighted that Vietnam, a nation of over 100 million people with solar, hydroelectric, and gas potential, along with upcoming nuclear power prospects, will become an important associate member of the IEA.

This event once again underscores Vietnam's strong commitment to actively contributing to global energy dialogues, building a secure, sustainable, and prosperous energy future together.

The IEA is the world's leading energy forum. It is not only a prestigious international organization but also a key forum in ensuring energy security and promoting sustainable clean energy transitions. Becoming an Associate Country allows Vietnam closer access to resources, policy analysis, and international experience in the context of energy globalization.

On February 18-19, the IEA Ministerial Meeting 2026 held in Paris is a large-scale event gathering nearly 60 ministers and senior leaders from member and associate countries. The conference also features dialogues with dozens of CEOs from leading global energy and technology corporations such as EDF, TotalEnergies, Shell...

The meeting aims to unify strategic directions to enhance energy security in the electrification era while ensuring the energy transition is safe, sustainable, and cost-effective for all nations.

At this meeting, the IEA officially recognized Colombia as the 33rd member, initiated the membership process for Brazil to become an official member, and announced that India is entering the final stage of its official membership process.
