Boluarte particularly praised Vietnam’s Bitel telecommunications firm for deploying services in rural and border areas of Peru, contributing to socio-economic development in the country.

She expressed her wish that the two countries would study a cooperation agreement in the field of telecommunications to support remote areas of Peru, especially poor children with difficult learning conditions.

The president thanked Vietnam for supporting Peru’s bid to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 2024.

Both host and guest discussed measures to strengthen future cooperation between the two countries, including exchanging high-level delegations, maintaining bilateral cooperation mechanisms, enhancing trade exchanges and continuing to closely coordinate at multilateral forums.

On this occasion, Ambassador Hoa conveyed Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong’s invitation to President Dina Boluarte to visit Vietnam soon.

During her visit to Peru from April 17 to 21, Hoa met with leaders of a number of Peruvian ministries in charge of foreign affairs, trade and tourism, education and telecommunications.

She noted there is much room for the two countries to increase economic-trade-investment cooperation as both countries are member of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

Two-way trade turnover between the two countries hit US$600 million last year, and US$146.8 million in the first quarter of this year alone, a year on year rise of 2.5%.

Currently, two large Vietnamese firms - Petro Vietnam and Viettel – are operating in Peru in the fields of energy and telecommunication services respectively. Viettel officially provided its services in Peru in 2014 under the name of Bitel, and it is the network operator with the largest fiber optic infrastructure in Peru at 30,000km in length.

The Ambassador suggested that the Peruvian government continue to create favourable conditions for PetroVietnam and Viettel to effectively implement telecommunications and oil and gas investment projects in the country.

Peruvian officials affirmed that Vietnam is Peru’s important partner in Southeast Asia, especially in the field of trade and investment. They proposed that the Vietnamese government continue to support the two business communities to effectively explore all economic opportunities to contribute to the development of Vietnam and Peru, and to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the wider world.
