Vietnam Education Publishing House supports Vietnamese teachers abroad in preserving and promoting the Vietnamese language
WVR - In August 2026, 50 teachers and volunteers from 14 countries and territories participated in a training course on Vietnamese language teaching for Vietnamese teachers abroad. With the participation of Vietnam Education Publishing House, the program contributed to enhancing their teaching capacity and promoting the Vietnamese language and culture.

Preserving Vietnamese, connecting to Roots
In August 2026, 50 participants, including teachers and volunteers teaching Vietnamese from 14 countries and territories, attended a training course on teaching Vietnamese for Vietnamese teachers abroad.
The program was organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese in collaboration with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) and NXB Giao duc Viet Nam. It aims to update teaching methods, enhance teaching capacity, and support the team directly preserving the Vietnamese language in the overseas Vietnamese community.
The training course was held at a time when Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW dated August 2, 2026, of the Politburo on the work of overseas Vietnamese had just been issued. The resolution reaffirms that the overseas Vietnamese community is an inseparable part of the Vietnamese ethnic community, a significant strategic resource, and a bridge between Vietnam and the world. It also emphasises the need to strengthen the preservation of the Vietnamese language, promote national cultural identity, and reinforce the connection of overseas Vietnamese with their homeland.

In this context, training Vietnamese teachers abroad is not only a professional activity but also a practical solution to bring the spirit of the Resolution to life. Each participant in the training course acts as a nucleus spreading the Vietnamese language, culture, and a sense of connection to their roots to generations of Vietnamese living and studying in various countries and territories.
Participating in the program, Vietnam Education Publishing House is responsible for the topics conducted by Dr. Le Hong Mai - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Education Publishing House and lecturers from the Educational Technology Centre -Vietnam Education Publishing House. The training content is designed to combine theory, illustration, and practice, focusing on teaching methods and forms suitable for Vietnamese students abroad and the characteristics of the teaching locations.

From the very first activities, lecturers exchanged ideas on creating a positive learning environment, selecting and utilizing appropriate language materials, thereby stimulating curiosity, interest, and love for the Vietnamese language among students. Many real-life situations from community classes in 14 countries and territories were shared, helping participants better recognize differences in Vietnamese proficiency, communication environments, class organization conditions, and students' attachment to Vietnamese culture.
Besides teaching organization methods, participants were also introduced to and guided in using the free electronic textbook ecosystem and television learning materials provided by Vietnam Education Publishing House. These resources can assist participants in lesson preparation, organizing learning activities, and expanding opportunities to engage with Vietnamese in a digital environment, especially in areas lacking materials and teaching conditions.
One of the activities that attracted active participation from the participants was practicing teaching Vietnamese through traditional games. From familiar childhood games, teachers identified language objectives, selected vocabulary, sentence patterns, and designed appropriate communication situations. Groups then built lesson plans and directly organized demonstration teaching.

In an enthusiastic atmosphere, traditional games became an environment for learners to listen, speak, interact, and use Vietnamese naturally. Through experiential activities, participants played the role of learners while observing class organization, adjusting game rules, and handling potential situations. Groups also discussed how to choose games suitable for age, Vietnamese proficiency, classroom space, and real conditions in each country.
The creative atmosphere continued in activities exploring folk literature. From folk songs, proverbs, folk tales, and poetry, teachers practiced guiding students in appreciating and constructing literary images through tasks suitable for their language abilities. Many groups composed their own folk songs, presented their products, and experimented with incorporating these compositions into Vietnamese lessons.
The activity not only provided participants with more experience in utilizing language materials but also opened up possibilities for combining Vietnamese language teaching with cultural education. Through each presentation, groups exchanged, commented, and adjusted ways of questioning, assigning tasks, and organizing interactions to make lessons more relatable to students raised in multilingual, multicultural environments.

Innovating teaching methods, promoting Vietnamese language and culture to young overseas Vietnamese
The activities of designing and organizing games in teaching Vietnamese also generated interest and positive interaction. Based on the objectives of each lesson and learning activity, lecturers guided participants in understanding the theory of organization and practicing the process of implementing games associated with language objectives, suitable for students' levels, and creating opportunities to use Vietnamese in meaningful situations.
Another focus was organizing Vietnamese language teaching connected with the nature, country, and people of Vietnam. Images of the homeland, landmarks, landscapes, life, and people of Vietnam were selected by teachers as materials for building lessons. Based on this, groups designed and taught demonstrations, while exchanging and commenting to refine lessons according to the characteristics of students at their teaching locations. Through these activities, Vietnamese is not only approached as a means of communication but also as a path for young overseas Vietnamese to explore their roots, discover their homeland, and nurture a connection with national culture.
At the closing ceremony, teachers reflected on the learning process, shared experiences applicable to their classes, and discussed continuing to connect and support each other after the training course. The demonstration lessons, games, folk song products, and activity organization plans developed during the program are the concrete results of the participants' serious, proactive, and creative efforts.
For Vietnam Education Publishing House, participating in the training course continues to concretize the long-term cooperation relationship with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese according to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two units. Through this, the strengths in educational publishing, content, teaching methods, and digital learning materials of Vietnam Education Publishing House are directly connected with the needs of teachers and the overseas Vietnamese community in many locations worldwide.

The training course demonstrates the social responsibility of Vietnam Education Publishing House in supporting the younger generation of overseas Vietnamese in maintaining their mother tongue, understanding national culture, and connecting with their homeland. Directly meeting 50 teachers and volunteers from 14 countries and territories also helps Vietnam Education Publishing House grasp the actual needs for Vietnamese books, bilingual books, cultural materials, digital learning materials, and educational products for the overseas Vietnamese community, thereby guiding product development and expanding cooperation in the future.
The program also contributes to concretizing major Party policies in Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW dated August 2, 2026, on the work of overseas Vietnamese; Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW dated January 7, 2026, on the development of Vietnamese culture; Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW dated August 22, 2025, on breakthroughs in education and training development; and Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW dated January 24, 2025, on international integration in the new situation.
For Vietnam Education Publishing House, this is also a practical activity to implement Directive No. 04-CT/TW dated March 17, 2026, of the Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership over publishing activities in the new situation, thereby promoting the role of publishing in disseminating knowledge, spreading Vietnamese culture, promoting digital transformation, and expanding international cooperation.
