The agreement on the establishment of a three-level law enforcement coordination mechanism in border control at border gates and land border management was reached by the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence and the Chinese Ministry of Public Security.

At the Hanoi talks, Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai, Commander of the Vietnam Border Guard High Command, said cooperation in national defence and security has affirmed its role as an important pillar of the Vietnam-China relations, contributing to enhancing and deepening the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

The collaboration between the Vietnam Border Guard High Command and the National Immigration Administration of China has remained a bright spot in the defence-security ties, he continued.

Reviewing cooperation, Thai said up to 286 border exchange programmes, meetings and talks between relevant units have been held so far this year with the participation of 1,682 officials.

The two sides have also worked together in crime combat, conducted joint patrols, coordinated in border gate management, and played a role in strengthening solidarity, friendship, and mutual trust and understanding between border authorities and residents of the two countries.

According to the officer, Vietnamese competent forces have coordinated with the Chinese side to handle a total of 518 cases of illegal immigration involving 4,436 people in the year to date.

Thai suggested the two sides maintain their cooperation in the implementation of the above-said agreement, as well as the minutes of their talks in Beijing on December 4, 2023.

They should further exchange relevant information, especially that relating to the fight against transnational and high-tech crimes, terrorists, separatists, reactionaries, and drug crimes.

Thai also suggested the establishment of a hotline for crime prevention and control, administrative reform, the building of smart border gates to facilitate trade between the two countries, the enhancement of exchanges at all levels, and the maintenance of twinning models.
