The event drew the attendance of UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Mark Lowcock, the World Food Programme Executive Director David Beasley, and Commissioner of the National Disaster Risk Management Commission of Ethiopia Ato Mitiku Kassa.

Addressing the dialogue, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the UN, welcomed efforts of the Ethiopian Government in creating favourable conditions for humanitarian activities of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and other partners.

However, Quy held that access to and ensuring of humanitarian aids have yet to meet the current demand, especially in southwest and southern Tigray.

According to the UNICEF, 33,000 children are suffering serious malnutrition in inaccessible regions in Tigray, who face high risk of fatality, he noted.

The diplomat underlined that conflict has posed direct impacts on food supply to locals in Ethiopia, resulting in a risk of hunger.

He called on all relevant parties to engage in a comprehensive dialogue with goodwill and constructive spirit, while implementing their humanitarian obligations.

The Vietnamese representative underlined the need for international community and the UNSC to continue supporting the role of neighbouring countries and regional organisations, especially the African Union, in seeking final peaceful solutions to the Tigray conflicts.

Viet Nam supports Ethiopian people’s efforts towards peace, stability and development, Quy stated, stressing the significance of the full respect to independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ethiopia.
