This article celebrates the 51st anniversary of the unit's establishment (October 6, 1975 - October 6, 2026) by the Youth Union of the National Boundary Commission, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A new era with a new mission
The year 2026 marks the first year our entire Party and people implement the Resolution of the 14th National Congress. A new development phase begins with great opportunities, igniting the spirit of self-reliance and self-strengthening, allowing the Vietnamese nation to confidently rise.
Amidst this heroic atmosphere, generations of civil servants and workers of the National Boundary Commission proudly celebrate the 51st anniversary of the unit's founding (October 6, 1975 - October 6, 2026).
After more than half a century of silent yet glorious dedication, 2026 marks the beginning of the second 50-year journey of the National Boundary Commission, with larger goals and higher demands in the mission of protecting national sovereignty and territory, and promoting cooperation to serve the country's development.
On this new journey, today's youth of the National Boundary Commission are the core force to continue the tradition of loyalty, courage, intellect, and dedication of the senior officials, while shouldering new responsibilities and tasks amidst profound and unpredictable changes in the world and regional situations.
Legacy of over half a century for the border youth
Looking back on the historical journey, the National Boundary Commission, along with units inside and outside the Ministry and related localities, has undergone a challenging yet immensely proud journey.
It has been 45 years since the initial border and territorial negotiations in 1974 with China, leading to the signing of border documents with Cambodia in 2019, to delineate over 5,000 km of land borders between Vietnam and neighboring countries. This includes the completion of demarcation and marking of land borders on the ground with China and Laos, and about 84% of the land border with Cambodia.
This journey includes decades of negotiations to sequentially sign maritime delimitation agreements with neighbouring countries, starting with Thailand in 1997 (Agreement on the Delimitation of the Maritime Boundary in the Gulf of Thailand), China in 2000 (Agreement on the Delimitation of the Territorial Sea, Exclusive Economic Zone, and Continental Shelf in the Gulf of Tonkin), and Indonesia in 2003 (Agreement on the Delimitation of the Continental Shelf Boundary) and 2022 (Agreement on the Delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone).
These significant and comprehensive achievements have laid a clear legal foundation for the national border, contributing to ensuring security and defense, and maintaining a long-term peaceful and stable environment for the country. This also provides a solid foundation for strengthening friendly and cooperative relations between Vietnam and neighbouring countries, creating conditions for Vietnam to confidently and proactively integrate deeply into the international community.
A system of nearly 100 types of border gates has been planned, upgraded, and operated smoothly, facilitating trade connections between our country and neighbouring countries and the region. Breakthrough cooperation models have emerged, including the Ban Gioc Waterfall (Vietnam) - Detian (China) Scenic Area, a model of cross-border cooperation.

In addition, the National Boundary Commission has effectively established and maintained many cooperation mechanisms, notably maritime dialogues with 10 major partners worldwide, including the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Republic of Korea, France, Canada, the United Kingdom, India, and Turkey, contributing to affirming Vietnam's role as an active and responsible member of the international community.
Inheriting the border and territorial legacy with a proud tradition is an honour for every young civil servant and worker of the National Boundary Commission. This tradition has been formed through challenging, complex, and prolonged diplomatic fronts, along with close coordination and cooperation with ministries, sectors, and localities.
It is a glorious career that requires absolute loyalty, placing national interests above all; it is the training of steadfast courage; it is dedicated, persistent day-and-night contribution, combined with intelligence and shrewdness at the negotiation table, closely integrated with meticulous and precise technical details in surveying, delimiting, and marking in challenging terrains.
However, this honour and pride also set new demands and tasks that urge the young generation of civil servants and workers of the National Boundary Commission to continuously strive, train, and cultivate to further consolidate the foundation built by previous generations.

Inheriting a glorious career: Proposed requirements and tasks
Entering a new era for the country, the international and regional context presents the work of border and territory with wide-ranging opportunities accompanied by complex intertwined challenges. Besides the traditional task of protecting and managing borders, the work of border and territory in the new phase also emphasizes the task of cooperation, expanding the country's development space. To excellently fulfill the assigned mission and ignite the “green aspiration” flame, the green of youth, of peace, and hope, the youth of the National Boundary Commission need to focus on the following key tasks:
Firstly, maintain steadfast political courage, absolutely loyal to the Party's ideals and national interests. This is the guiding principle, the firm ideological foundation for every young civil servant and worker of the National Boundary Commission to remain undeterred by any challenges, always alert and determined to firmly protect the border and national sovereignty.
Amidst the rapid, complex, and unpredictable developments of the international and regional situation, this steadfast courage serves as a sharp ideological “filter”, helping the young generation stand firm against all streams of information, uphold revolutionary vigilance, and maintain the fervent enthusiasm and high responsibility in every assigned political task.
Secondly, continuously cultivate and master knowledge. Faced with new demands on border and territorial work, the youth of the National Boundary Commission must regularly learn and enrich their knowledge of history, politics, and law to gain a comprehensive and deep understanding. Besides professional knowledge, each young official also needs to strengthen necessary skills such as situation assessment, analysis skills, negotiation skills… to handle thorny border and territorial issues, contributing to improving the quality of forecasting and strategic advisory work.
Especially, in the context of the rapidly and strongly evolving Fourth Industrial Revolution, young officials need to grasp and apply science and technology into practical work with a proactive, creative, and effective spirit while ensuring information security and safety.
Thirdly, promote the spirit of dedication and always be ready to overcome personal limits. Amidst unpredictable changes in the international and regional context, new difficulties and challenges will continuously arise, requiring the youth of the National Boundary Commission to promote the spirit of pioneering, courageously tackling difficult and new tasks, ready to accept and conquer all entrusted responsibilities. Each young civil servant and worker needs to nurture an innovative mindset, a receptive attitude to learn from predecessors, while promoting youthfulness and dynamism.
Completing these tasks is the key for the succeeding generation to turn challenges into opportunities, confidently shouldering the mission of border and territorial work in the new phase.
Ready to steadfastly move forward on the new journey
Recognizing that today's achievements are due to the tireless efforts of previous generations, the youth of the National Boundary Commission always carry a deep sense of pride and gratitude. In the atmosphere of celebrating the 51st anniversary of the National Boundary Commission's establishment, the youth of the Commission proudly “continue the tradition of loyalty, courage, intellect, and dedication”, with technique and expertise as tools, knowledge as the foundation, and gratitude as the journey's companion.
With this spirit, the youth of the National Boundary Commission are ready to strive and rise to excellently fulfill all assigned political tasks, worthily inheriting the career of protecting the border and territory, serving the country's development goals in the new era.
