The man to be given the pioneering seal in Sin Thau commune

During the 20-year period as Chairman of the People's Committee, then Party Committee Secretary of Sin Thau Commune, Po Dan Xinh always helped the local people eliminate many unsound customs and drug addiction.

To follow the footsteps of Ha Nhi torch

We met Po Dan Xinh in one of the most spacious house in the westernmost land of the country. He is the sixth son of Po Chu Chu - one of the first Party members in the land of border T-junction. After being introduced, we learned that the Po family of the Ha Nhi ethnic group in Sin Thau commune is famous not only because of its early enlightenment to the revolution, perseverance and cleverness, but also of a great number of cardres bearing the family name “Po”. Promoting the family’s tradition, Po Dan Xinh strives to study and practice, soon to be admitted as Party member.

Going back in time of the year 1972, the upright slope of Ta Tong, Nam Sa and the ferocious Da River could not stop the young Po Dan Xinh, 13 years old, who determined to leave the village and family to join the primary school at the center of Muong Te district.

In 1976, after finishing 4th grade, Po Dan Xinh transferred to the boarding ethnic school at old Lai Chau province (in Tuan Giao district) and continued to study until 1983, finished grade 10, and became one of the highest educated persons in the land at border T-junction.

In Po Dan Xinh's luggage back home, there are admirable "miracles" of study reports. The young man continued to join the militia and guerilla, then became the Secretary of the Ta Kui Village’s Youth Union and then the Head of the Commune Culture Department cum Deputy Secretary of the Commune Youth Union. In January 1987, he became a Party member after a courageous act.

In the middle of August 1986, it rained like pouring water, floods rolled from across the border to Mo Phi stream. On the way back from A Pa Chai village, Po Dan Xinh heard the screams of the people in Ta Ko Khau village, he rushed to see dozens of people chasing a small child swept away in the flood water.

Without hesitation, Po Dan Xinh rushed himself to swim in the middle of a fierce stream and saved the boy’s life. The story of a brave Deputy Secretary of the Commune Youth Union has touched people's hearts, making the villagers admire and believe in him. Shortly thereafter, Po Dan Xinh was admitted to the Party by the Standing Committee of Muong Te District Party Committee.

By promoting the role and exemplary qualities of the Party members, absolute loyalty to the Party and the people, he has held many important positions in Sin Thau commune authority such as Chairman of the People’s Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee; Secretary cum Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune ... He was the first Secretary of the Commune Party Committee on the border T-junction (until 2007, the Party cell of Sin Thau commune had enough party members to form the Party Committee).

Although he has retired, Po Dan Xinh is still the most prestigious village elder in Sin Thau commune.

At the time being, in Po Dan Xinh's family, all father and two sons are all party members. For many consecutive years, his family has been awarded many certificates of merit by the People's Committee of Dien Bien province and the People's Committee of Muong Nhe district for agricultural production and business.

The most prestigious village elderly

Being one of the first people in the village to attend high school and get a tertiary education, after graduating from university, Po Dan Xinh joined a group of war veterans and border soldiers to communicate Party and State policies to local people and help them to put knowledge into practice.

He recalled: “I was one of the first people to buy a rice hulling machine and began a model that integrated gardening, fish breeding, and animal husbandry. I earn approximately 8,600 USD per year from fish breeding, afforestation, and running a hostel. TO be a cadre, a party member, I have to go first, do first, so that others villagers can follow”.

During the 20-year period as Chairman of the People's Committee, then Party Committee Secretary of Sin Thau Commune, Po Dan Xinh always helped the local people eliminate many unsound customs and drug addiction, clear “no Party member village” and constantly rise. From a poor, undeveloped village, after a period of being taken care by the commune authority in developing economy, chasing the “hunger” and “illiteracy” enemy, the village has changed its “flesh”, the living conditions of the villagers has been improved.

Po Dan Xinh has led a simple, industrious, creative and exemplary life, so his popularity in the community is very high. Sometimes some couples in the commune had conflicts, but after meeting him and being appeased, everything is settled. His family’s model of gardening, fish breeding and animal husbandry is now followed by many local households.

The living conditions of the villagers became more stable, the family economy was getting better and better.

Seeing Ha Nhi culture beginning to disappear, Po Dan Xinh began collecting Ha Nhi customs, traditions, folk melodies, and folk tales (Ha Nhi ethnic has its own languge but it does not have writings).

“I have worked with the elderly and artisans to revive Ha Nhi culture, including Xoe dance, knitting, and worshipping rituals.

Being a cadre expriencing the most hardship and working for a long time, I always think that I myself have to be a good citizen who understands all Party and State policies. I should encourage young generation to follow the elderly so that all families in the village can live in harmony, complying with Party and State policies and succeeding and developing together”.

Although he has retired, Po Dan Xinh is still the most prestigious village elder in Sin Thau commune. Whether he is a commune official, or just a retired official, Po Dan Xinh always possesses the quality of a leader, an enthusiastic party member, a pioneer who can inspire the younger generations. People like him are a solid fulcrum who guides the villagers to eradicate poverty and develop economy.
