WVR - The Halal International Conference, with the theme “Fostering International Cooperation and Mobilizing Internal Resources to Develop Vietnam’s Halal Industry,” took place on October 22 in Hanoi.

The Conference on Halal Industry was held for the first time in Vietnam.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will chair the Halal Conference, which will be coordinated with the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The Halal Conference, the largest international event on Halal, was held for the first time since February 14, 2023, when the Prime Minister issued the Project "Enhancing International Cooperation to Build and Develop Vietnam's Halal Industry by 2030."

The conference will provide an essential orientation for developing Vietnam's Halal industry. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and delivered a keynote speech at the Conference.

With its significance and importance, the Conference attracted the participation of more than 500 domestic and foreign delegates in person and online.

On the Vietnamese side, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat spoke at the Plenary Session, as did leaders of nine Ministries and branches, provincial and departmental leaders of 50 provinces and cities, representatives of hundreds of enterprises, associations, research institutes, universities, a number of Vietnamese Muslim dignitaries, and domestic news agencies and newspapers.

On the international side, representatives of 50 countries and regional and international organizations attended in person and online. Most were heads of global, regional, and national Halal management agencies, along with prestigious international enterprises in the Halal field, ambassadors and representatives of embassies of important Muslim countries/Halal markets, and international organizations in Hanoi.

The conference includes six official activities: a Plenary Session, two Special Sessions, a Closing Session, and a Business and Local Connection Session.

At the Plenary Session, notable activities will take place, such as a ceremony for handing over cooperation documents, introducing the National Halal Certification Center and launching the Vietnam Halal Standards, and launching the Halal Corner on the World and Vietnam Report - the official media agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In addition to the official activities, there will be 20 bilateral sideline activities, including visits and working sessions in Quang Ninh and Ninh Thuan provinces, bilateral meetings, and contacts between international delegations and Vietnamese ministries, branches, businesses, associations, and localities.

The conference is expected to focus on the following contents to promote internal strength and promote international cooperation to build and develop the Halal industry in Vietnam:

Firstly, sharing experiences in developing the Halal industry of countries and regional and international organizations.

Second, there are opportunities and proposals for cooperating with Vietnam to develop the Halal industry and open the market for Vietnamese Halal products.

Third, potential and orientation for developing the Halal industry in Vietnam and its localities.

Fourth, promoting negotiations, aiming to sign cooperation agreements/MOUs on Halal between Vietnamese agencies and localities with several potential and important Halal partners.

The global halal market has a large scale and potential and is diverse in various fields. In 2024, the number of Muslims will reach about 2.02 billion, accounting for nearly 25% of the world's population, and is expected to reach about 2.8 billion by 2050.

The global Halal economy is expected to reach 10 trillion USD by 2028.

The consumption market for Halal products is distributed worldwide, from Muslim to non-Muslim countries, because Halal products meet many criteria on food hygiene and safety, quality, and environmental protection.

On the Vietnamese side, the Prime Minister has approved the Project "Strengthening international cooperation to build and develop the Halal industry in Vietnam by 2030".

The project sets out major national orientations on mobilizing international resources to comprehensively build and develop the Halal industry in Vietnam, helping Vietnamese enterprises participate profoundly and effectively in global Halal product production and supply chains.
